It does make you think and there's nothing wrong with that, some people don't like learning though and say it's junk.
I like anything that makes me think of the possibility's, it does tell of actually people of the time period and most people don't take time to learn history because it's too much to read.

I like learning where we've been in history but I'm scared of where we are going.

What makes a story like The Da Vinci Code so compelling is in how non-fictional elements are interwoven within the fiction.

The Da Vinci Code was first published in 2003, 4 years after the the film Dogma (1999). Dogma also asserted the primarily plot element of a living female heir to Jesus ... the last scion ... yet did not receive similar notoriety/fame for this claim because it was clearly produced as a work of fiction/comedy.

The inclusion of non-fictional components in The Da Vinci Code lends an air of credibility, even when none is deserved, leading some to accept the fictional portions as true and others to fear this very potential.

Otherwise, it's just a fictional work based on half-truths and grand assertions without sufficient basis for reasonable consideration.

well there are a few facts to the story -- but the rest of it is a FICTION. if it would haven been true then it would definitely have been mentioned either in Bible or Qu'ran -- but neither of these books ever mention anything even close to Jesus's-pbuh marraige. well atleast it helped the world know about the hidden Gnostic Gospels and how the Holy Book Bible was manhandled (added, deleted, rejected, ordered destroyed ) in 100 AD.

The author is intelligent no doubt about that but it is just a bad view on JESUS, almost every text that is used is twisted to change the way people have always seen Him but there is Truth in the scripture he uses. You decide use your view don't go off of other's experience's or books encounter God for yourself.

The primary source document for Dan Brown's book is "Holy Blood, Holy Grail," by Michael Baigent. You ought to read that, if you are interested in the background.

ANY truth? I'm sure there are at least some facts in that movie. But it's a story, so of course it's fiction.

I think there is alot more truth to it than most people want to even think about.

while slightly in the x-files conspiracy theory line of thinking... if there wasn't some degree of truth that'd make the church look bad... why have/had so many church organizations made such a huge point of fighting the book/movie and "debunking" it, when its not presented as factual to begin with.

yes, and i believe the truth is that Jesus married, or at least was intimate with Mary Magdalene, which is in reality, no big deal, at least to me. but to the Catholics in charge of such things, admitting to it would seriously undermine all of the dogma that they have written and taught since their inception...admitting to it would cause people to wonder and perhaps doubt other beliefs of the church..in my opinion, Jesus was a flesh and blood man, given free will just like any other human being...i believe in a higher power, i'm just not convinced that Jesus was the direct link to that higher power that Chrisianity would have us believe...again, this is my opinion..

It's kind of interesting, but no I don't think there's any truth to it. It's not historically correct. The author writes detective thrillers. So I guess he decided to twist things up a bit.
