There are a couple of reasons this is not a good idea. First, if you get it tattoed onto a swollen tummy--it is going to be distorted when you go back to normal.

Second, I don't know this for a fact, but there is the possibility of bad stuff getting in your system. When I was pregnant I never took any chances. I would not even take an aspirin.

Hey, I have a tattoo in that area (close to my hip bone; around the area where you appendix normally is), and I just had a baby in June! Honestly, my tattoo did not get stretched as I thought it would. It didn't look much different while I was pregnant (even if I gained 50 lbs), and now it looks exactly the way it did before my pregnancy (I lost 45 lbs already - so I am almost back to normal) I don't think this part of your belly stretch that much; I think it would be worse if you had it done close to your belly button or so.
Anyway, if you are currently pregnant, or planning to be pregnant soon, do not get a tattoo right now (risk of infection, hepatitis, etc.).

Why take chances? Besides the tat being distorted, you are at a higher risk of infections while pregnant, and you are more likely to develop an allergy to the ink if you are pregnant.. Just wait a few more months. Or is this tat going to be a totem for luck or warding off evil? Asking seriously, as a witch. A henna tattoo will do the same thing, if you think that the inkwork is necessary for that reason. Otherwise, It won't kill ya to wait till after the baby's born, will it?

I have a tattoo that wraps around my belly button. I have two kids and yes it stretched but it still looks good (not as good as it used to, but then again my belly doesn't look as good as it used to either). I think it depends on the size of the tattoo, how much your skin stretches during your pregnancy, if you get stretch marks, and if you are able to get your pre-pregnancy body back. If I were u I would probably wait, just to be sure.

If you're a breeder don't bother, you're going to get fat and all stretched out and it's going to look bad. There's nothing worse than a woman with 20 extra pounds and a hip/stomach tattoo.

I've had a butterfly tattoo on my belly for several years,my son just turned a yr. old. If you moisturize your belly regularly during pregnancy you'll be just fine. I gained close to 50 lbs. while I was pregnant & my sister teased me about the tattoo stretching. I used "Palmer's" & my tattoo is perfectly fine & back to it's normal shape.

my cousin tattoed her belly button area and it looked FUNKY after the baby. Wait on the tattoo. Try a henna instead it will last a few weeks and is acutally very pretty. You can do your stomach also and the in lasts a few weeks.

well, think about it. If your body gets bigger then of course it will stretch or "move"... but it's possible to go back. that can happen with a tattoo anywhere... if that subsequent body part changes size dramatically...

I DO! I have a tattoo in that exact area... I have a 5 month old baby girl, and my tatoo is just fine! (BTW, it's a lady bug)
