I would suggest you to get in touch with some NGOs, or some Big Corporates, where they people have a Corporate Social Responsibility. Under which they help some or the otherway.
Companies like Yahoo, Mobile Phones, Indiatimes, NDTV, AOL, Amazon....etc U can contact them. For eg.: If u contacting Mobile Phone compny. do get in touch with their Corporate social responsiblity dept... and u can request there. however the service works out somthing where mobile service provider will ask u to send a message for help by sending msgs to each other. The more ur msg is spread through their service... they pay u some amount for passing one particular msg... and i m sure that will help u alot...
As the process is bit troublesome... BUT MAKE A NOTE

See if your friend would like to host a fund raiser for their mother, there a lot of company's out there that donate. grocery stores that would help supply some of the food and you can talk with clubs in your area, to see if they would donate their spaces. It is a good cause to stand for and I helped put together a couple to help cover the cost of the cancer treatment for a co-workers husband. We had silent auctions, game room with black jack, texas holden, DJ, and of couse food. Make sure that this is what the person wants before it starts. It is good to call companys but going to see them face to face is great so.Have a letter stating the reason for the fund raiser and thanking the donatier a head of time. The letter is for their tax write off and to display for their donations for the year.

bake sales, car washes, 50/50 raffle, Craft sales. There are alot of ways to help raise money. You are doing a good thing by helping. Ask your local grocery store if you can set up a table inside or out to sell things.

for my husband who died of cancer feb 10 2006, we had a benefit, have an auction and a silent auction, also sell bar bq plates like for $6.00 have a dance. invite all family and friends. put out fliers like 2 months before benefit. I know it works we raised $17,000.00 that really helps with medical bills, you will be surprised how many people wiil suport you in this. plus your friends mom can see everyone.

Yard sale, bake sale, on a wider scope, put together a talent show...charge admission but let people know where the money will be going to. Good luck.
