We have to learn to put our-self to sleep and sometimes for various reasons we forget.
Things like caffeine can disrupt our sleep cycle.
You need to learn to turn off your thoughts. One way is to lay down and imagine the dreams you would like to have.
Mostly you have to get up, turn off the lights and get in the bed. For most people just laying down is enough of a trigger.

Well, you're falling asleep at midnight and waking up about six hours later, that would definitely make people tired. It could be your bed, you may not know you're waking up in the middle of the night and so you will feel more tired in the morning. If this is usual even when you do get a lot of sleep, things like taking naps on a weekend when you are already well rested, then you should ask your doctor about pcos, polycystic ovaries disease, because it tends to make you tired, along with having a swollen thayroid gland.

I'm the same way. I don't know why. I'm 63 y/o and have always liked to stay up late. For me I think part of the problem is living and sleeping alone. I didn't have this problem when I was married and went to bed with my x-wife. I have the TV on for company and when I turn it off I'm alone, and I hate it. The longer I stay up with the TV on, the longer I avoid becoming alone.

The problem is "avoidance" of going to bed. If we sleep sound it is as if, instantly, it is the next day. Since I developed severe chronic pain, It is much harder to go to bed. My pain is less at night, and when I go to sleep, it's as if it instantly it becomes the next day and increased pain. Also, When I wake up, I have a whole day of pain ahead of me. All of this causes me to hate to go to bed.

It helps to having something to look forward to the next day, even if it's only 1/2 hour of something you enjoy doing.

I don't know if any of what I mentioned, applies to you but I hope it may give you some ideas of what to look for in areas of your life that you might make changes in and have an easier time going to bed. It's a major problem in my life so I know how frustrating it can be and how it lowers my self esteem.
