Every so often the skin on my elbows start to get hard and then it starts to become scaly and itchy. I went to kaiser and they said it is ezcema and didn't want to diagnose further.

However, I have friends who have ezcema and its not the same. I started to try self treatment and have found a way to get rid of it for at least 2 or 3 years at a time. That is, it will come back every 2 or 3 years which is much better than every other month. The secret is that I place my elbows over a red hot stove top until I can't stand it anymore. Doing this a couple of times a day has killed whatever is under my skin but not permanently. What could it be? I would love to get it out of my system permanently.

Could be something called psoriosis. This is where the skin grows so rapidly that it dies off and becomes scaly. Usually happens on elbows and knees. You may want to look into that.... Good luck!

Sounds like my elbows. I wouldn't do the stove thing if I were you though....sounds painful. What works for me is using lotions with mineral oil as one of the first three ingredients, or just skipping the lotion and using baby oil or baby oil gel on my elbows. Keep them hydrated and things should be fine. Without the mineral oil, mine would seriously peel so deeply that they look like the skin is rotting off. With it, I might have a few red bumps, if anything. If this doesn't work, I would go back to the doctor and ask for some eczema medication.

Please see a dermatologist. I have psoriasis and elbows are the most common area to be affected. A dermatologist can prescribe steroid lotions (prescription strength is very effective) or Protopic ointment (quite expensive and very effective) which will clear it up. It may come back but simple lotions as above will control any flareups. Protopic has worked for me though.
