i would talk to your doctor about the severe pain. did the hospital give you the spray that numbs it a bit? if not, go back up there and ask for it, or at least the name. it is good stuff. i had 6 stitches and it took me about 2 months to completely heal. good luck and congrats!

I tore with my children too. If it is burning now with pain then It sounds like a couple stitches may have come out on their own. These types of stitches usually dissolve on their own but can pull out ahead of time. Tell your Doctor so he/she can look. Mine itched and burned a bit from the beginning but healed just fine. Normally takes, if i remember correctly about a week to heal. Use witch hazel wipes (tucks). Fold them in half and place there. It relieves any discomfort. You can also get Benadine and mix with luke warm water and make a perry wash using a squirtable water bottle to keep from getting an infection while it heals. Use the wash and then the tucks after each time you use bathroom. Hope you heal up soon. Congrats on the new baby. I'm due Jan'07 (have 3 others)

I had quite a bit of tearing with my last baby. Since episiotomies don't seem to be performed much anymore, I didn't have one and had tearing. It takes about a week-10 days to heal up.
The hospital should have give you a plastic squirt bottle. You fill this with warm water and rinse off EVERY TIME time you use the restroom. You do NOT want to wipe yourself with anything. I used a clean cloth to blot off the dampness afterwards. They should also have given you Dermoplast spray or something similar. If not, I also used an OTC analgesic foam that Johnson's makes and it worked very well to ease soreness and prevent infections.
The stitches will be very sore and sensitive for a few days, but if you are having a lot of pain you might want to have your doctor check for infection.

You really might want to call your dr, I know my pain didnt last more than a day or so.I had a few stiches with each birth. They gave me a small squirt bottle to fill with warm water... use that whenever possible and it will make it feel much better... you can just use any kind of bottle with a nozzle on it, like a $1 bottle from the toiletries dept in walmart would work. Also, Tucks wipes work great for the pain. Good luck!

Are you using the cleaning supplies sent home by the hospital? I was sent home with witch hazel (Tucks) pads, some antibac cream and a bottle for squirting warm water after going. That was very soothing (the water). You should use that every time you go.
I had a 4th degree tear (all the way thru and then some) with my first and it healed within a week to 10 days.

It took about 2 wks for the stitches to heal for me. I had an episotomy (sp?). Some people bounce right back from labor and others need alittle time. Just rest, take it easy and that should aide to your recovery. Sharp pains usually indicate your doing too much along with bright red blood.

it is the records. that i found. 'probably. Doing perineal rubdown on your 0.33 trimester would help in making the floor of your perineum stretchier and shrink your risk for tearing or wanting an episiotomy. Your probabilities of tearing are additionally decrease in case you have a sluggish, controlled delivery that enables a good number of time on your perineum to stretch to handle your infant. this would recommend waiting and struggling with the urge to push for a at an identical time as while the child's head is crowning, case in point. a sprint analyze has shown that giving beginning contained in the section-mendacity place would make it easier to furnish your infant extra slowly (nevertheless no longer all women locate this place gentle). seem for a practitioner who would not immediately shrink episiotomies and is gentle and experienced at helping women provide beginning with an intact perineum. yet bear in mind which you and your caregiver can no longer administration each little thing. there may be no thank you to stay away from tearing, tremendously in the experience that your infant is great or in a complicated place, or in case you have quite "fragile" tissue.' yet do no longer enable the assumption-approximately tearing hardship you too plenty beacuse i'm optimistic after the 9 months of waiting and the birthing technique and ultimately retaining your little kit of entertainment on your palms the final concern on your techniques would be that tiny little tear which will in easy terms take like 2 or 3 stitches to repair besides :) that's what i like to think of besides ;) Take care & good success! good success !!!

Depends on how much you tore. I had an 11 pound, 11 ounce baby and I had a third degree tear. It took me the full 6 weeks to feel myself again. I would ask them for something to help with the pain, though. I had a spray (typically used for hemeroids, I believe) and cooling pads.

I remember that!!! Don't worry it doesn't take to long. It really depends on how bad you tore and how fast your body heals. I tore and had an episotomy( where they cut me) my tear took longer to heal even though it was smaller (three stitches) Make sure you're taking your bathes they help alot (plus it gives you "mommy alone time") and don't try to have sex to soon... Congrats on your baby and good luck
