I totally agree with you! The whole immigration thing is a bunch of bs because if you really sit down and think about it we wouldn't be what we are today if it wasn't for immigration! If your going to shut down one border you have to shut them ALL down! No questions asked!!!

Funny isn't it, some Mexicans go and cry about how they should get papers in the US, I was born in Mexico illegally, and they never gave me my papers, bunch of hypocrites, my parents didn't leave their home country because they wanted to, their lives were in danger because the civil war in their country. I have lived in Canada for 21 years, and love it here, I like visiting my family there, but why go and stay there illegally, when I make just as much as the average American Citizen if not more in some cases.
And yeah, I love the Universal Health Care, I've been operated on and didn't have to pay anything, just checked out and that was it, same with my Mom, Dad, Aunts, also, my grandpa when he had his skull cracked open on a construction site. I can't imagine being charged thousands of dollars like you guys. Wish you guys had universal health care. Maybe my family in Oakland wouldn't be paying tens of thousands of dollars for my cousin's surgery.
I really do enjoy visiting the US when it gets cold here, the people there are really friendly, and really helpful.
But, like you said, it's all about politics and money, Canadians visit the US and spend money there and go home after, while the Illegal Aliens usually and most often don't and I guess that what separates both countries.
P.S. Canada isn't a white country like some people believe, it's multi-cultural just like the US, UK and a few other countries. I see people from every country on a daily basis, and we all get along really good.

There does definitely need to be better security at the Canadian border into the USA. The reason people in the US are discussing putting up a fence on the Mexican border is because that is the border over which the majority of illegal aliens are coming into the USA.
I too want people to enter the US legally. It is a sad situation when people leave their own South American countries to come to the US because they are poor and can't take care of their families, or have so little opportunity to succeed financially in their own country. Many people come here and earn money, then send their money back to their family members in their own country. When they do this, it does not help many US businesses because there are fewer people spending money in US stores.
Illegal alliens work for whatever wages they can get in the USA because it is so much more than they would receive in their own country for the same work. The unfortunate side effect of doing that is that wages remain artificially deflated in the USA. After all, employers will pay the cheapest wages they can in order to increase their own income. It ends up affecting the US economy in a negative way... meaning fewer jobs available for legal residents, and less income for many businesses.
So you see it is not just a matter of not wanting people to come over the border. If a person comes to the USA intending to make this their home and becomes a citizen, their family members will likely follow them and their money will be spent in the USA, which would be good for the economy. Their taxes would be paid to the US government and the country as a whole would benefit.
Personally I think most South Americans are hard working, decent people with a good work ethic, and good family and religious values. Most are the kind of people who make good neighbors anywhere in the USA.
The USA is built on the belief that the rule of law should prevail in a free society. Employment laws in the US are often disobeyed by some employers who hire illegal aliens. If laws are broken without regard for the law, we have chaos until laws are once again enforced. US citizens are now urging law makers and officers of the law to enforce existing laws.

We don't have very many illegal Canadians here. Most of them are pretty happy where they're at.
And we also don't have very many illegal Irish, Russians, Chinese, or Indians. Such illegals would have to sneak on a plane undetected in their own country, and somehow make it past customs and security. That's a lot tougher for people from other continents to enter this country illegally than it is for Mexicans to enter illegally.
The U.S. won't benefit from closing the Canadian border because too much healthy commerce takes place there. It isn't like the border to Mexico, where it is surrounded by poorer border towns on either side.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION regardless of where the illegals come from is the problem. Many Americans, (black, white, Asian, Mexican) are calling for securing the borders -- all of the borders. Legal entry into the country is the only acceptable type of immigration. The obvious reason that there isn't talk about a fence at the Canadian border is that we don't have 12 million illegal immigrants from Canada sneaking into the country, demanding their so called rights, waving Canadian flags all over, using our resources, taking our jobs, driving down our standard of living and expecting to be supported by American citizens.

First of all, you don't hear about illegal immigrants from Ireland, Russia, or China because there aren't many if any. Secondly, there isn't a mad rush to the US from Canada so why would we build a fence there? The majority come from Mexico. That's just the way it is. If we can control the wave of illegal immigrants from Mexico, we control most of illegal immigration as a whole.

You got a lot of excellent answers here to your rather uninformed question and my favorite is from PsyChoPath as he really answered you well and truthfully. The reason I called your question "uninformed" is because you don't even know that at this same time, the border between Canada and the US IS being bolstered by a "virtual" fence and this has been in the news here in Canada and, frankly, most Canadians have no problem with this. Surely you understand that Canadians are NOT invading the USA in the way that Mexicans and Central Americans are - the sheer numbers are in no way even comparable between the two borders! I do NOT believe that the true purpose of building the border fence is so much to keep the "terrorists" out as to keep the "illegal immigrants" out. Sure, we want to keep the terrorists out, also, but the REAL impetus behind this border wall is the overwhelming number of illegal immigrants coming into the USA through the Mexican border. The economy in Canada is so similar to that of the USA that Canadians are NOT going to the USA for "a better life" in the way that the Mexicans and Central Americans are. Canadians move to the USA to retire, in the same way that Americans go to Mexico to retire. That is about the extent of that immigration and it is "legal." The problem of Canadians going illegally to the USA is probably about equivalent to the problem of Americans going to Canada - they are usually a few "criminals" who are trying to go into the other country to avoid prosecution in their own country. In fact, Canada gets more American military defectors than any other kind of illegal immigrant; however, even this is not to such an extent as to cause a huge alarm, such as the onslaught of Mexican and Central American illegal immigrants who go to the USA.
I'm trying to really explain this to you as simply as possible, in hopes that you will understand that there is a HUGE difference between the problems of the two borders and they really can't be compared. And, as Psychopath said here, Canada is not really so much a "white" country as Canada has SO many legal immigrants from all over the world, you cannot call it a "white" country.

The reason why is because there are so many more Mexican illegal immigrants coming here - there aren't that many Canadian's trying to get in here. It's not really related to terrorism at all.
By the way - I'm not for a fence - I'm just answering your question.

Canada has health coverage, jobs, clean beautiful cities, a decent government, etc. They don't need to flee their country to find something better. Mexico, on the other hand, doesn't have much to offer millions of its citizens, so they come to America to do better. Trouble is, they're coming too thick and fast, causing a burden to America. Our government (our taxes) has to feed them, shelter them, give them jobs, give them medical care, and it's causing a strain and drain on our economy and patience. Bottom line: we don't NEED a fence between us and Canada, but we DO need a fence between us and Mexico. Until Mexico's government gets on the ball and eliminates corruption, poverty, and other problems, its citizens will continue to flee.

It's your border guards that let terrorists in your country .Put the blame where it lies.I'm Canadian & I can't get in your country because of an impaired driving charge in 1978.The four terrorists that walked across your border were Saudi nationals with all their documentation in order. How the hell can you blame Canada for that.I do believe they learned how to fly in Florida at a school run by Americans.........hmmmmmmmm!Go ahead & build your fence,I could give two sh1ts either way.
