My two puppies are always playing and growling at each other, nibbling, tugging, screeching... well when my boyfriend gets home, they seem to get a LOT rougher with each other when he is playing with them. I don't know if it is jealousy or what... but after he is done playing, they are still going out at it, looking like they are really biting each other, growling much louder and in a meaner tone (haha, okay that sounds funny)... but does that make sense? Normally (like now) they are playing together very well... does that happen? (they love other dogs)

ok.. this is off topic.. but i wandered to your myspace page and saw you adopted your dogs.. HOORAY!! i instantly like you.

to answer your question.. theiy see your boyfriend as another playmate.he probably gets them all riled up and when he leaves they are still super active, so that's probably why they act the way they do.

It is very normal, their just "rough houseing". They must get excited when your boyfriend gets home. Also maybe they are trying to impress "Dad" (your boyfriend).
My dog is the same way with my fiance, he growls and sounds really mean when they play tug-a-war (he doesn't do it when I play with him though), I hate the sound but I know it's just play. Cause my dog wouldn't hurt a bug (he doesn't either). It's normal, your dogs love eachother I'm sure a few serious scabbles will happen just like siblings ........ their being puppies, it's normal.

The energy around the dogs will change when they start fighting. My catahoula mix sounds like he's killing other dogs when he's playing, but he's just really loud. Watch their body language. If you see play bows and lots of jumping, etc, it's just play. If they are standing erect and posturing, or hackles are raised, then you may need to intervene. Puppies learn bite inhibition from each other. If one plays too rough, the other will yelp and no longer play with him. The one playing rough then learns he was too rough and will be more gentle next time. I wouldn't worry about the noise, they're probably just excited when your boyfriend gets home so they just amp up the energy in their play.

I have a dog and I know about animals very well as I am fond of animals. If their fur stands up straight, then it means they are fighting. If they are normal, then it means they are not angry and hence are playing. It is so simple.

yeah my two pups are the same, sometimes it gets real nasty and serious , but ive been told to let em go, they wont actually kill each other, and they are still working out who will be the dominant one the alpha dog , as there can only be one.

my dogs do the same thing when my husband comes in the door. very rarely when i do. my husband would be considered the alpha in our household and i guess they figure who ever can get closest to him will be alpha male. plus he takes the daddy dog bye by alot.
