Down the middle or across? WHY?

for my son, I slice it across
for my daughter, down the middle.
Why? because that's how they like their sandwiches cut, and for some reason, making sandwiches for someone seems like a, oh, I don't know, sweet thing to do, so slicing it the way they want is just a way to show love, I guess.
Maybe I'm just a marshmallow, I don't know.:)
For myself? I rarely eat sandwiches, but I prefer them whole.
Hmm, wonder if anyone has ever done a study on sandwich slicing styles and personalities.
Interesting.

To me, a diagonal cut seems the more elegant way to cut a sandwich, even though the ones in 7-11 and other fast-food stores are sliced diagonally (maybe their suppliers think this way, too).

A middle cut (top to bottom?) would be my second choice, as it leaves two nearly symmetrical parts.

Across from left to right (or vice versa) would be my last choice, since it would leave one part of the sandwich all from the bottom of the bread and the other from only the top.

Another two choices would be diagonally in fourths or both middle and across for fourths, which would be cuts I would choose from for a young child. For reasons given above, I would likely use the diagonal cuts as a first choice.

As for when I'm by myself, or in a small gathering of family members in an informal setting, I almost never cut my sandwiches into pieces, I just eat them.

For my friends leave it whole, family diagonally so they aren't embarrassed by having stuff on the nose or upper lip, cut half for children, and who are the finger sandwiches for???? Then again what type of sandwich are you making? Makes a lot of difference when you cut peanut butter and jelly vs. club, ruben, or watercress.

If it was for a small child I would cut it into fours. If for an older child or an adult I would cut it across/ because it looks better for an adult than middle- and for the child it is just cool being cut that way. Myself, I usually cut into three. I have two boys who tend to take my food!!

Diagonal or down the middle doesn't matter, as long as you slice it with love.

For myself, not at all. For my sweetheart diagonally...it looks nicer. If we're having one and a half sandwiches each the odd one gets cut down the middle ...'cos it is a fairer split.

depends on the sandwich? a pbj is middle because cross would make the sides to thin and jelly would fall out easier. a deli meat is cross because the shape makes for easier bites for the person on the go.

If sliced, some variation and combination of crusts off, cross ways or diagonal. If I know the preferences, then its automatic. If I don't know the preferences, I ask.

I slice it either way depending upon how my knife ends up on the bread.

It really makes no difference to me what so ever. Nor do the men I am cooking for care if I make it look different. I have tried changing things to see if anyone notices... they don't.
