Religion teaches us to turn off the rational parts of our brains, and substitute self-delusion for evidence and willful ignorance for knowledge.

Religion teaches us nothing! Thankfully Jesus didn't come to establish a religion but to establish a relationship between man and God. Religion can't save any one as it means nothing more than performing a set of rites almost all of which is a concoction of man. We are all capable of both reading and understanding the Word of God and through the reading of the word we become enlightened and born again.

It depends on what religion you're speaking of. And to sum up all of what any religion teaches is a massive enterprise. You might begin in a library.

Are we capable of understanding God's Word though we are human? Yes, we are. God gave us his Word in terms we could understand. That is, God is capable of communicating with us, knowing full well our limitations. While we may not be able to comprehend all that is God, God is able to comprehend all that is us...and so he speaks to us accordingly.

It doesn't teach ME anything, because I'm not interested in learning. And I am sure I'd be able to understand anything that is within my intellectual capacity, but I am not interested in trying to understand whatever some human beings have called 'God's word'.

And I'm not 'only' human. I'm human, which is to say a member of the superior and most intelligent living species that we have known.

Religion teaches us that when you bunch humans up in any institution, that institution generally becomes a force multiplier in demonstrating the general stupidity of humans.

Other than that, God is good.

religion could be best thing in our life and also could be the worst. we see some people who just kill other people and many violent in the name of religion, so that is the worst case. in the other hand we all need to believe with god and all prophets that were sent to us by God. if we really pursue the religion we should not say any lie, not cheat, not violent , not crime , not cruel not immoral to our spouse or family and even neighbor, and love our family and all other people and also help others , so this is religion that would have brought the best life for all people if people really would have believed it and respect it.

Religious Twisters, Zealots and Fanatics teaches us all to be Violent to understand Peace, Nasty to express Virtues and to be Vengeful and take revenge in order to be a Lamp of Forgiveness.

It all depends on what religion we are referring to. God's word is for mankind and if we still have trouble with it we have the help of the Holy Spirit.
