Someone asked for a link. I provided a link. Someone game me a thumbs down. I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over this, but seriously, what was the point of the thumbs down?

I don't lose any sleep whatsoever over any thumbs downs I get.

That's because I'm glad that I had the opportunity to voice my opinion and gave my honest answer.

Most of the thumb downs I get are in the religion section, so it's understandable the people who don't necessarily believe what I believe would give me a negative response. I have no problems with that...That's their right, and they are expressing it as much as I am...

most people do it if your opinion disagrees with theirs, so much for tolerance and open mindedness, lol. I don't give a thumbs down to a thoughtful answer that I just disagree with, I usually just don't rate those. I will however give a thumbs down to a snide, hateful, condescending or demeaning answer, or an answer that does not really answer the question- someone just trying to be a smart alleck.
There is no reason though, to give a thumbs down to someone who is just honestly answering the question based on their beliefs, knowledge and experience- that is what this forum is supposed to be about and the variety and diversity of the answers gives us something to think about and that is how we learn.

I just give them based on agree or disagree. I would say the point of thumbs down is so people know that a particular Idea is widely accepted. For example

Q-Do you believe there is a God?

A-No.

I would give a thumbs down because I disagree, not because I don't think they have the right to answer "No".

Occasionally I give a thumbs down to someone who is being retarded, like the girl who asked "If Jesus told you to have sex with small children would you do it?" I don't like people who are retarded in that sense.

Certainly not worth worrying over.

I try to be objective in my voting. If someone posts something irrelevant, then I vote thumbs down.

For example, if an atheist asks about how he can approach his parents and a Bible-thumper's only answer is to tell the atheist that he's going to Hell for his ways, then I'll vote that down. It does not answer the question.

Likewise, if a Muslim asks where a mosque is in Phoenix and an atheist's only answer is to call his god a silly sky pixie, then I'll vote that down. It does not answer the question.

I've seen some people vote with sheer bigotry: Christians voting atheist posts down just because they disagree and atheists voting theist posts down just because they express faith. You can't do anything with those people, so who cares?

Such is life.

i'm notably useful ninety% of the persons who come to this section provide thumbs up and thumbs down consistent with despite if the respond is of a similar opinion with their ideals or no longer. Atheists frequently provide all the different atheists thumbs up, regardless of their solutions, Christians do the comparable....i think of a few human beings get thumbs down from all and sundry.

I use it for people who aren't really answering the question... you know the ones that say "thanks for the points!" Being a Wiccan I have found that I have gotten a lot of thumbs down too. I'm with ya on this one!

Atheist give thumbs up for ignorance and thumbs down for intelligence, the rest of us judge accordingly.

That was the atheist that gave you thumbs down for giving a good answer, if you would have said something stupid they would have given thumbs up.
