When fruit/vegetable producers realize they are losing too much in rotting produce?

bellezaincomparable -Well, it's like this. These illegal invaders who have been picking our fruits and veggies claim Americans are too lazy to do those jobs. Since a large porthion of the producers illegal workers have been DEPORTED there are no workers to pick the fruits & veggies so it's laying in the fields rotting. If those producers want to salvage their crops and cut their losses they can raise the wage to a livable wage and Americans will then do those jobs. But, they won't do them for slave wages. Those producers could lose their businesses if they don't cough up the money to pay legal citizens. M-kay?

Daisy - You got it, Girl!!.. WE, the taxpaying citizens of the USA are supplementing the low wages the illegals make (and their emplyers fail to pay) Throug their abuse of federally funded programs. LEGAL taxpaying citizens would be paying taxes on those higher wages and would not be getting welfare (or not qualify for so much of it). Even if they DID qualify for the welfare, they PAID for it, by paying taxes. Unlike the illegals who don't even pay taxes on extremely low wages and under the table cash. (^_~) Thx

I get so angry with the pro-illegal immigrant posters here who say, "Americans are just lazy. If an American loses out on a job to an illegal, it is just because the illegal is the harder worker." No, it is NOT because the illegal is the harder worker! It is because the illegal is the more desperate worker who is willing to work for slave wages without any benefits, whatsoever, because he can collect the benefits off of the backs of the taxpaying citizens by virtue of working for below minimum wage and therefore qualify for social benefits such as food stamps and free medical care! Therefore, the benefits that the employer is NOT paying for, is being paid for by the taxpaying citizens! As well, illegal immigrants, because of working for below minimum wages, manage to live only by cramming far more people than is legal or safe into houses and apartments and sometimes garages, often risking the lives of other tenants in the buildings by the fire regulation violations and health safety violations (attracting vermin, etc.) so that they can split the cost of rent so many ways and still have enough money to send a few hundred bucks back home every month. Believe it or not, I guess these living conditions are still better than what they left in their own countries, but that does not make it right because they are benefiting out of the pockets of American citizens who pay taxes that pay for the social services that they access. In my mind, they are stealing from the American citizens in order to live their "better life."

Mistress Angelina - I heard of programs like what you were talking about before, I'm pro-workfare. Also, it is funny you mentioned providing shelter, because if they were to hire Mexicans legally on a visa they would need to sponsor them, and they would legally need to provide them shelter.

As for these farmers with crops rotting, the face of agriculture has changed in the last 20 years. What you see as a small time farmer is actually just a hired hand, the works for a huge corporation farm. The small family farmer is a endangered species, don't be fooled by there talk, they are not the honest hard working people they make them selves out to be.

Yes they will, hell, if they went into NYC and talked to all of the homeless, and offered them a job, they would have their workforce in a day. All they have to do is provide minimal shelter, and food and water for the first week, pay them on the second, and then let them start buying their own food, and watch them save up enough to get an apartment, and clothes. You will see the economy bloom because of them raising their wages to the federal minimum wages.

Yes, or when it is profitable they will invent a machine to harvest them. There was once a machine that could pick tomatoes, but squashed many, so someone invented a tomatoe thatwas strong enough to withstand the machine. They didnt hire illegals.

i was told people who make $10.00 an hour is farm workers pay. so people working in a plant making 10.00 an hour should be making more. the illegals working with false i.ds is keeping the pay wage down in the plants to. they will have to bring the pay up when all the illegals are gone.

I can't wait to see an over weight crack head try and pick fruit without falling off the ladder. If "real" Americans wanted these dirt poor jobs to begin with, you would never have had a problem with illegals because all jobs would be filled. I guess welfare has just always been more attractive then getting your hands dirty and doing a difficult thankless job.

If you lost your job and had the choice of letting your family starve for lack of food/money, or go pick tomatoes, what wold you do? Now, if you had a choice of picking those tomatoes or getting welfare money and food stamps, what would you do? And define viable income. We've conditioned a generation that it's much easier to live on the dole than to actually earn it. Turning out to be an entitlement mentality. And the last statistic I've heard, only 20% of field workers are actually illegal.
