We feel it is our duty and our pleasure to spread truth and reason. There is no single group as devoted to untruth and unreason as the religious fundamentalists of all types. This is the section they come to, so we follow them here and tell them things they reject and answer questions they think they already know the answers to and ask them questions they cannot logically answer.

All in the hope that some tiny percentage of them will one day open their eyes and start thinking for themselves with the light of pure, sweet reason pouring out of their once ignorance-clouded eyes.

Now sit back and watch as the thumbs down reactions fly and the whining to Big Daddy Yahoo begins.

Pick your choice:

1) Because Spirituality isn't only for the religious.

2) Because Religions are a social phenomenon and everybody has something to say about them, whether as an outsider or otherwise.

3) Because Religions are also political institutions with a very high influence on ALL of the society, and everybody should have the right to try to stop it.

4) Because in some people's view, religions are a form of manipulation, and maybe these people would like to set believers free... just as some believers would like to save US from hell.

5) Because it's a good intellectual challenge to defy the longest running, most firmly established lie on earth.

Cause we are allowed to be. The section is "Religious and Spirituality" section NOT Christians only, or any other religion. Some people believe "Atheists" is a religion of its own.
Some are hear because people ask questions directing them to "Atheists". Some are hear to defend their right to NOT believe in god, and their right to not have people push their religion on them. Some are hear to educate others. Some are hear for fun.
Why is it all religious people don't keep religion in only the R&S section??

Ok here comes some more of the education part from me:
People Atheist are not riding the fence. They have researched it and came to the conculision there is no god. We are NOT lost or dead. Just cause your bible tells you that don't mean it's true, it is only true for you! You say you are telling us the "truth" well that is a LIE cause you don't know the truth cause you can't prove that god exist just like no one else can prove he don't exist. You "BELIEVE" he exist. Again people this is the R&S section its more then just for christians! GET IT RIGHT! ( This is to educate some of those who have answered this question.)

The atheist has just as much right to profess his non-belief as the religious person her belief.

That said, the athiest's right to practice non-belief does qualify as religion according to the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' interpretation of the First Amendment (Kaufman v McCaughtry 04-1914).

One should recognize, however, that there are false athiests, as well. These people go out of their way to ridicule the religious person in order to justify their "non-belief." A true athiest is not threatened by a religious person's belief, as a religous person should not be intimidated that there are atheists.

there is not any factor making an atheist area because atheism is in basic terms a loss of concept in god. could there be a component devoted to those that don't play rugby? as nicely, preferable atheists far off from the r&s area will in basic terms bring about religious human beings getting dumber because atheists tend to appreciate extra approximately faith than non secular human beings and could surely furnish arguments and knowledge without being thoroughly one sided and are not going to overlook approximately arguments that are posed against them like theists do.

Because the term means "not believing in the existence of a god." The fact that it relates to god in any way is the reason why the subject of atheism belongs in the religious & spirituality section.

Some may want to rile things up, but I'm not that way. Religion fascinates me, and I like to hear people of different faiths and how they see things. I am not into causing trouble though. I think it's good... if you can make a good defense with an atheist, I'm sure your religious convictions will grow stronger.

I am Buddhist (which is essentially atheistic usually), but lean toward an agnostic view. I think religions help people cope with life... or not lol

A variety of reasons no doubt. What is interesting is that if one even opens them self up to the possibility of there being a God then they will have to acknowledge that God sees through our facade and these answers lack a sincerity in allot of cases. Doesn't make much sense when you stop and think if there was a big bang then something had to cause the big bang. One of the basic laws of science teaches out of nothing comes nothing. If there is a beginning there had to be a cause. Science has shown there was a big bang now many uncomfortable sicence people have been trying to invent alternate theories. So far none of them have held up. Even Stephen Hawking's model involved substituting real numbers with imaginery numbers which Hawking admitted is not realy a description of reality.

Because Atheists strike a balance between the Darkness and the Light... They harmonise the two, and thus they have inadvertantly become the third to complete the perfection of Three.

Atheists are a very needed component, to challenge what we view as truth... if no one challenges the truth of Good and Evil... then everything becomes Dogma and blind faith. If faith is strong... no one should be threatened by an Atheist in fact an Atheist helps a Spiritual person become stronger. (Kinda like sparing in Martial arts ) If our view cannot stand up to an Atheists challenge then it proves we have much more to learn.... Anyone who gets all riled up, violent and angry from being proven "wrong" is just embarassed to be wrong and pride/ego is damaged

The Path is Unlimited in its Wisdom, but WE are limited in our Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom... Atheists are needed to spur us on... if everyone just pats each other on the back and say how good we are... it all becomes just a street show

Because people are constantly asking questions of atheists. Who else would answer questions properly if not those to whom the question was directed? People who have never walked that walk and can't speak from experience, that's who.

Because people are constantly making assumptions about nonbelief and atheism and those who live in those shoes are there to correct those faulty lines of thinking.

Because religion matters to most people and effects everyone and their everyday life even if some of us don't adhere to any religion.
