My heart goes out to your firend. The same happned to my dog when I was in 8th grade..He was gone when I came home from school..Please give this poem to your friend, and I hope it helps>
May I go now
Don't you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain-filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be,
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first.
I fought with all my might!
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do!
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day .
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and are afraid
because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I loved you too.
That's why it's hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time,
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

The first time a lot of us have to come to terms with death is when a cherished pet dies. Whoever talks to her, needs to explain there is a season for everything but they must do it in a way she will understand. She also needs to be able to talk about it with someone and be given a chance to grieve. Hopefully her family was able to bury the dog. If she was able to participate in a little ceremony for the dog, it would help give her some closure.

How heart breaking for your friend. Maybe you could get her a toy dog or maybe a picture framed of her dog. Is there a school counsellor you can talk to? The grief your friend is feeling is real and it would be helpful if she got some help to talk about her feelings. Hope that helps.

it takes time to get over the loss of a pet. Make an effort to be nice to her even though shes not a close friend.

Your friend lost a loved one. Listen to her -- sometimes it is easier to speak with someone who is not as close.
Maybe even let the school know she just lost her dog.

it's always hard to lose a well-loved pet. the most immediate solution would be to find a new pet, and sympathetic friends who don't say "it's just a dog, get another one..."
distract your friend by spending time with her, or tell her friends to spend more time with her. activity gets one's mind off things...

Even though you're not close, you obviously feel for her, so go ahead and tell her you are sorry for her loss. She will appreciate that someone cares.
