Martin Luther was an amazing man. The Lutheran church of today is quite liturgical and full of people who think that they are Christians because they go to church or it was their family religion. Most of them have no clue what Martin Luther did nor the true significance of it. Some I have met live a life like they have no morals and values and yet think they're okay because they attend. There are some Lutheran churches that are not like this and are still holding to the truth that Luther preached. Basically, Luther was saying that indulgences or paying off God by giving money to the church was not going to get a person to heaven. It's quite ironic actually because he never would have preached that church attendance could buy your salvation either. Yet many churches today are off track and falling back into the same ideas that Luther took a stand against. He got into trouble because he was basically saying that it's not an authority, a church, religion, money or anything else that gives us a connection to God. He was bringing the bible back into focus and showing that it's a relationship with God - a supernatural change of heart - through faith - not some act or effort that a church, money or anything else in this world can do. He made a mockery of what the church leaders of the day wanted to do - religion does tend to be about control and money - a relationship with God is something like in a different playing field altogether and it makes the authority, rules of men and traditions of man fiddlesticks which it tends to be.

There are several "branches" of Lutheran, of which I am one of the Missouri Synod Lutherans. There is the Wisconsin Synod, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church also. Each of these "branches" have different belief systems built around the vaules of the teachings of Martin Luther. My church (and Synod) believes that homosexuality is a sin, however we are still to love and accept that person as a child of God. Personally, I've never heard of a sin that isn't fatal. All sins are fatal in that they lead to death and seperation from God if you don't ask for God's forgiveness (and then accept it), are not baptized and believe in God as your Savior.
If you'd like to find out what the Missouri Syond Lutherans are "about" and what we teach, profess and believe, please find the information you need at http://www.lcms.org/ and check the FAQs and the Belief and Practice section. The history of Martin Luther can be explored here:

or here:

As well as many other sites with a simple 'google' search on Martin Luther.
As for the Lutheran church, we accept all races, all genders and all sinners.

Luther has by no potential been and should no longer be seen a Saint. A saint, confident, in that absolutely everyone Christians are saints, we are all little ones of God. confident, Luther wanted to alter the Catholic Church from interior. yet, they refused and that they excommunicated him. He persisted to coach and to evangelise, forming a collection he stated as Evangelical Catholics. Luther, himself, did no longer kill Jews. And he develop into spouting no longer something that different Church leaders of the day have been additionally spouting. bear in mind the Spanish Inquisition? there develop into rampant prejudice against Jews, and it develop into coming from all factors, no longer in easy terms Luther. And his techniques and teachings on those of the Jewish faith are no longer component of Lutheran doctrine. non secular wars... heavens.. the international has been full of non secular wars because of the fact the beginning up of time. bear in mind the crusades? (one thousand - 1200 advert) The Romans? (750 BC - 4 hundred advert) Luther develop right into a guy. an insignificant guy, led by potential of God and the Spirit, to deliver forth substitute. contained meanwhile.. I recommend you seem back at background.
