Huh? Fifty stray cats hanging around one house? Sounds like they are being fed by someone in the house. Anyway, if your son does not come in contact with them and they are outdoors, then all should be well. If however,t he cats are INDOORS, then your son COULD pick up fleas and thus transfer them to your cats. I think your humane society needs a call on this one.

A hard one for sure. Any way the friend can play at your house? I would be afraid of bringing fleas home. They can travel on your son's shoes. Those cats probably aren't getting any vet care and I'd worry about other diseases as well. Any call me a worry wort grandma, but I'd guess that house isn't to clean, I wouldn't want my child eating snacks there.

you should have precautions there is a cream on the market that you rub on your skin that kill the fleas when they touch you i am not sure what it is called but the animal control uses it. For your cats on the other hand use advantage or other pet flea gels to get rid of the infestation it is hard to imagine 50 strays around one house.
Good luck

I can't help you with flea info. My best advice is to have your son watch for fleas and remove his shoes & socks before coming inside your house.
Now about diseases...cats can only get FIV & Feline Leukemia, Rabies, etc from other infected animals, not from a human. Your child can not get FIV or Fel. Leukemia from them or any animal. Rabies would only be a possibility if he got a bite from them.
Cats can only get FIV/FeLeuk from coming in contact w/ an infected cat carrier animal. That means they'd have to exchange saliva or blood (or sometimes respiratory droplets or urine) with an infected animal. So if your cats are inside only, they can't get it because your child "brings it home".
Like someone said, it's still a good idea to have your cats vaccinated against FeLeuk in case they ever get outside. I have a FeLeuk. + cat that I must medicate every other day. It's not fun!
Overall, the risk is very low that the cats will ever bother your child. Just let him play and have fun!
Good luck!

you should only be concerned if your son's friend's cats become ill. If that happens have your son remove his shoes before coming in the house, as he can carry a disease in on his shoes. If your cats are vaccinated it won't be a problem though. Oh and by the way I have over 40 cats myself. 3 inside and the rest outside. I keep them well fed and cared for. I also had a vet friend teach me the proper way to vaccinate my animals and that saves me a bundle on vet fees

Wash your child after playing with feral animals. Talk to your vet about pest control (things like flea colars and worm treatments come to mind), and keep your shots up-to-date. Also tell your son the importance of telling you or another adult if he gets bitten or scratched even by accident. Also if your son gets fleas take him to the doctor, and wash and iron (seal clothing in plastic bags if they can't be ironed) his clothes all of them and any bedding, carpets etc. monitor him for depression, allergies, fatiuge, constipation, rashing, and other symptoms. I really think you should limit time or have him stop playing at that friends house alltogether. Playing with feral, or stray animals can be dangerous to his health not just your cat's. Although you should probably get them tested for FIV just in case...
Note: human fleas and cat fleas are different, but both can be carried by cats and humans. Cat Scratch diease is a risk too.

there is not any longer something incorrect with no longer liking activities - in case you attempt to stress your son into activities he's plenty greater possibly to truly unlike them and could refuse to play. basically relax and notice the place this friendship between your son and step-daughter's boyfriend is going - if he does initiate LARPing excessively or something like that, perhaps basically define some barriers and rules over the quantity of time he's authorized to take action. You do seem slightly hypocritical nonetheless once you assert it replaced into fantastic to your friends to do it yet no longer your son.

Yes, you should be very worried. What kind of people have 50 stray cats living around them, especially if they can't take care of them, i.e. flea treatments. You child could get sick, you cats could get sick, you could get sick. But then again, I am a dog person.

Insect repellent is a beautiful thing.
As soon as your son comes home, off with his clothes and into the washer they go. (Keep his shoes in the garage, and spray them with anti-flea stuff.) (You might even make your son strip in the garage or backyard ... depending on how careful you want to be.)
Teach your son about using Purell hand sanitizer, too .... no sick kitty germies, either!
Meow and purr to your kitties!!!!
