So im watching these sex predators on dateline NBC and its crazy as to why these older men in their 30's would actually go to a teenage girls house expecting to have sex. Many of these men have careers and families.

Well, with this show in mind and all that stuff...i couldnt help but wonder on a situation with my friend and i. See, i turned 18, im a guy, i turned 18 in May and today is my other buddies bday, turning 18 as well. Both of us are male freshman in college in California. I dont have a girlfriend but if i was to have a girlfriend at the age of 17, would it still be considered illegal? Even if we were only months apart? Secondly, my friend that is 18 has a girlfriend that just turned 17 or still is 16 years old. (Yes, i think shes rather young for him but they seem to like each other). So even if they're together is it still illegal? It was just a thought in my mind that i wanted answered. None of this is all that online predators the dateline show is about. So answers? :-)

There is a big difference on those Dateline shows than that situation. First off, those men were old as hell, and were pedofiles. They broke a few laws beyond the age limits... But a girl asked me a question similar to your situation, and I hope this answer works for both of you:
Depending on the state u live in, the age of consent are different... it's either 16 or 17, but you can always find out in your own research. But since he is so close to 18 it wouldn't be like a huge deal, but if there were technicalities involved like a parent filing charges for statuatory rape, it could happen. But it is circumstantial to a certain extent. But my male cousin for example was 17 and his girl was 19, and she had a baby. My aunt still had to sign affidavit for his paternal paperwork and whatnot. But if she was nasty and didn't want my cousin to be takin care of the child, she could've pressed charges against her. I don't know if they would've stuck. But it's all how close to 18 they are. But the best thing is to not get into a "R.Kelly" situation. Date within your age limit and ask for id to avoid any complications.

its not illegal to date someone 2 years younger then you. I dont knw where you are from but the legal age for girls to have sex in Australia is 16. So she is legal and he is legal. It would be illegal if he was dating a 12 year old and also very disturbing.

Once you are an adult at 18 you can sleep with anyone that is of a legal age, so as an 18 year old you could date a 40 year old if that is what you liked.

It rely on the Age Of Consent. In some states that would as youthful as sixteen yrs previous. In some States 2 14 year previous little ones having intercourse is unlawful and the two gets in difficulty. Now your 18 year previous chum may be risk-free as long as he would not action picture the intercourse act. it somewhat is an entire new can of worms. somebody having intercourse on action picture would desire to be a minimum of 18 years previous.

I think once a girl turns 16 she could start dating a year or two older than her.
