I'm not sure but I think you may be confused. The person that got bonded out owes the bondsman, not you. Maybe you put up the original cash payment for this person in which case it is more like a loan to them. The bondsman should go after them to get their money back (if they were to skip court) not you. Did you sign paperwork promising to be responsible for payment? If so, read it carefully. It should say what your responsibilities are. I would also make sure the accused showed up in court. If you think they may run, call the bondsman and explain your concern. They may be able to revoke the bond and return the person to custody.

Hi,
In response to your question, If I can't pay the bail bondsman, will I go to jail?, I can tell you that may be this site can help you http://bailbondsfaqs.net
As you asked; "I bonded someone out of jail. If they run, I will owe the bail bondsman the remaining 90%. If I can't get the money and have nothing for collateral, (car, house, etc.) will I be arrested?" I hope it might help you.
Best of Luck :)

No paying a bond for bail is not an Illegal act. If the person you bailed out, ran, the bondsman will hire a tracker to locate the bail jumper (I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, LOL) but the bail bondsman will want to work things out with you in the matter of recovery.

If you put the signature or collateral up.
YOU pay the full amount, YES. Or they take what property you put up.
You don't go to jail, unless it was a fraudulent attempt.
Example: Give them a FAKE car title, property lein..etc..
BTW: The person that jumped bail...He will go down. Yes. He will wear antijumpers for sometime.
Good Luck.

If you think they will run, don't bail them out. You will be responsible for that loan, that's really what bail is. If the guy runs, he will leave you high and dry....the good news is that in the US, you cannot be imprisoned for debt alone, the bad news is that the bond company can take you to court and garnish your wages and what not, they can file a judgment and take your income tax refund, it can get real nasty.......IF YOU THINK THEY WILL RUN, DON'T BAIL THEM OUT......THAT'S LIKE SAYING OKAY, I'M GOING TO GO 90MPH AND JUST LET GO OF THE WHEEL AND CLOSE MY EYES.........

When you bond out of jail, you are on what is called a surety bond. If your bond is $1000, then the bonds man puts that $1000 up for you and charges you a percentage of that. The bonds man has agreed with the courts that he is responsible for you and you show up for court when you are supposed to. When you go to court on the charge you bonded out on, the bonds man gets his $1000 back. If you don't show up for court, the bonds man loses the $1000. If the bonds man suspects that you won't show up for court or if you didn't pay the amount that you agreed upon, then he can go 'Surety Off Bond'. This means that he is no longer responsible for you and you can be arrested for 'Surety Off'. The courts then see you as a flight risk and its hard to get anyone to bond you out again. Most bonds mans will work with you. They are business men. They want your business again and they want you to recommend them to your friends if they are ever in that situation. Call the bonds man and explain your situation. Most important show up for court.

you will not be arrested because you did not commit a crime, you will be charged with the bill and they will make arrangements with you. i am surprised that they let you bail out someone when you had no collateral, they might attach your wages, which would be a pertcentage taken out each payday............
