This guy I work with always comes up to me and tells me, "You look nice." Why does he compliment me so much and then never ask me out?

It's obvious that he likes me...yet if it's not very professional then why doesn't he stop saying it?

Guys are chicken. Its sad, but true. Giving you nice compliments is his way of talking to you everyday, without making himself feel uncomfortable or embarssing himself. Im sure he likes you, esp. if hes always telling you how nice you look....why not throw a compliment right back at him? ;) sometimes we have to meet the guys half way, and help them out when it comes to flirting...they are really shy, way more than women are....so dont get impatient with him...he cant help it..instead, be forward with him, see if he wants to catch a cup of coffee with you after work one nite...if he says yes, then you know you just saved him from having to make the first move that hes been dreading...but after that, its his turn and problem to let you know that hes intersted...the second date should be his intiatitive...and im sure he will bring it up....guys dont want to feel rejected, or out of place esp when it comes to relationships and woman. just give him a lil "hey i like you" hint...and the rest will all fall into place...he just needs a lil nudge of faith thats all..

Maybe he is too shy. Maybe he doesn't want to give you the impression that he 'is hitting on you'. Next time he says that, why don't you say, thanks, what do you think about going out for coffee sometimes after work?
The laws concerning harassment are much tougher on guys than on females. THAT'S now working against females when they want to be approached. Calling these guys chicken, as some of the other answers imply, is just insensitive and small minded. No wonder that with attitudes like that they can't find any guys.

Because he wants you to ask him because he is too shy to tell you but gives you hints by commenting you

I think he's either shy or he's playing games with you. I used to know a guy who used to say that to me, too. I never dated him. He personally wasn't my type. He waffled too much.
