I think you have to make it. Here are two recipes
----------------------------
saffron rice
1 1/2 cups long grain white rice (basmati is great)
3 cups water
1 teaspoon saffron threads, crushed
1/4 stick butter
salt
tiny pinch of powdered ginger or cinnamon (optional)
golden raisins and toasted pine nuts, sliced almonds, or pecans (optional)*
olive oil*
salt and pepper
1. In a large, lidded sauce pan, bring water to a boil. Add saffron and turn heat down to medium-low. Allow saffron to steep for 5-10 minutes, until the water is a beautiful golden-orange color.
2. Add rice, butter and spice. Return to boil. Cover pot and turn heat down to low. Simmer for 20 minutes without stirring. Fluff with a fork, add salt to taste, and serve immediately. Garnish with raisins and nuts if desired.
* If desired, saute pine nuts in 2 tablespoons of olive oil until slightly browned - do not overcook

saffron rice
Saffron’s pricey, but fortunately, a little of this fabulous spice goes a very long way.
1 cup short-grained rice
1 cup veggie or chicken stock
2/3 cup water
pinch of saffron powder or crumbled threads
1/2 small onion
sprinkle of thyme
serves 2
time 20 minutes
1 Heat the stock along with the saffron and thyme in a small covered stockpot until just about boiling.
2 Meanwhile, mince the onion. Heat a tablespoon or two of olive oil in another small stockpot; when the oil’s hot, sauté the onion until soft (five minutes or so). Stir in the rice, and cook for another minute or so. Add the heated stock and a sprinkle of thyme. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower heat, cover and cook for 15 minutes.
3 Remove the cover after 15 minutes. If there’s still some liquid left but the rice seems cooked through, cook uncovered for another couple of minutes, until the water’s evaporated off. (If the rice still seems a little chewy, on the other hand, cover and cook another three to five minutes). Remove from heat and serve.

If you have ever had paella, the rice is saffron. Saffron is somewhat an expensive seasoning. They are small red threads from a species of the crocus plant. It gives the rice a golden color.
Trader Joe's carries a saffron rice mix in a box which is not that expensive, Casbuh Saffron Jasmine Rice. When you open the seasoning package, you will notice the red threads.

I do not believe that you can purchase Saffron Rice out there. What you can do is buy rice as well as Saffron from the spice section of your supermarket and add the Saffron to the rice water before you cook it. You'll get Saffron rice once the whole thing is cooked.

In WalMart (rice aisle) they sell saffron rice in a small packet that all you have to add is water, butter, and cook for 20 min. It's very good. It's also nice to have a shortcut every now and then. It's wonderful when topped with ranch beans...
My daughter could eat it everyday if I let her.

It has kind of a nutty taste. I have seen it at Walmart and Kroger.
