I am currently an aerospace engineer doing a co-op with a well known company. I've been asking around about the advantages of grad school and here is the answer.

If you are not looking for a research position, a bachelor's degree will be fine. A Master's will get you a slightly higher paycheck and a greater chance of getting hired. There isn't really much difference, pay-wise, between a master's and a PhD in engineering. You simply choose one depending on what you want to do. If you want to engineer, do a bachelor's or master's. If you want to do research do a PhD.

Pay-wise you aren't likely to see much difference straight out of school. However, you will stand out once it comes promotion time.

The Ph.D. should help if you are looking to go into research. If you are going to do design work for a private firm or the government, you will be getting around entry level pay. The PE is more important for design work than the Ph.D.
