Dogs express their anal glands naturally, unless they are overweight or, on occasion, get clogged. When a dog drags his butt around on the ground (or your carpet), this means you need to take him to the vet to have his anal glands expressed.

Secondly, NEVER express your dogs anal glands yourself unless you are a trained professional. You could seriously hurt your dog if you do it wrong. Take your dog to a VET or GROOMER (only some do this, so call ahead of time to confirm). If you have their anal glands expressed to often, like every week or every two weeks, you can cause your dog to become constipated.

highly recommend you take your dog to a vet for that. they can do it easy and fast. it involves squeezing the glands. and i'm afraid that on some dogs, it never stops; you have to take them in for it repeatedly. very much don't recommend doing it yourself. at least take your dog to the vet the first time and have them show you how to do it.
