Many years ago I took a dog I had to obedience class and the person taking us on the coarse told us that egg was good for a shinny coat but only the yoke. That the white of an egg destroyed vitamin C in a dog. Whether that is true or not I'm not sure as I haven't heard anyone else say the same thing but took it being true and avoided giving any of my dogs the white of an egg. Maybe someone here can verify that to be true or not. Ice_Queen: My 18 year old Boarder Collie showed signs of arthritis and was finding it hard to move first thing in the morning so I started her on brewers yeast and now she plays and chases a 1 year old Rotty . Half a tablespoon twice a day on her food and after a month she is running round like a pup.

To have a lovely soft and shiny coat, a dog needs to have Omega 3 added to its diet...you can do this with Flaxseed oil. Buy a bottle of it and put a large tablespoon onto the dog's food every other day (if you do it everyday he'll get a runny bum). I have two dogs, a collie cross and a terrier cross and their coats are beautiful and soft. And the flaxseed oil prevents heart disease and boosts the immune system too!

I purchased WELACTIN CANINE it has Salmon Oil and 3 Omega 3 it is good for the coat and all over wellness for your dog, depending on your dogs size you will use the recommended dosage. It helps support Heart Health, Kidney Health, Brain/Vision, Skin Health, Immune and Musculoskeletal Health.
I am just trying this and it seems to be improving my dogs skin.

We give our dog "Safflower Oil" on his food. Available inexpensive at almost any grocery store.
Put a little "Safflower Oil" or "Sunflower Oil" (either will work) on his food once a day, mix it into his food so it is lightly coated and your dog will chow down. And you will see the results in days.
We also give our dog scrambled egg mixed in a dish of food ever once and while as well as bacon grease.

Omega 3 fatty acids, and a really good food. Start reading labels of pet food, it's time consuming, but worth it. I had to read labels until I found a food for my dog. If your dog already eats a good food, then there are supplements to give your dog.

Do an internet search for BARF (biologically appropriate raw food). That kind of diet will give your dog the most appropriate nutrition and have his coat in mint condition.

Fish Oil Capsules, you can usually get them at a vet, no Rx neccessary. They can also be purchased at any place that sells vitamins. Also eggs, maybe one a month or so. Try switching to a better dog food, like Science Diet, Iams, or Eukanuba.
