Today I called this girl I've been seeing to tell her I want to come pick her up tomorrow night. I ask what she has going on and she tells me that she has work from 2 pm to 6 pm. I ask her about after work and she tells me she has no idea. I say "why don't I come pick you up tomorrow night, then?" She hesitates and then tells me that it would be cool. I ask her if she's sure and she tells me yes, that she was just caught off guard, distracted by something. She was in the car with one of her friends and apparently something happened. I don't know, I couldn't really hear what she said. Anyway, she tells me just to call her before I come and get her. My thinking is that it doesn't really make any difference if I call her or not. Why couldn't I have just given her the time that I was planning on coming over? Or did she just need time to make up some excuse not to go?

You have just witnessed the fact that women like keeping all of their options open. She's trying to fit you into her very busy social schedule. Maybe she can fit you into her 6:45 time slot as long as she get's home before her 10:30 boy friend.
Yes, you needed to give her a specific time that you would take her out, if she was up to it, or wanted to make it slightly later, cool. It's OK to be flexible, but not this being "On Call". That is cr@p, man, don't let her get away with that.
This being "on call" thing is being mistreated by her, and you're letting her do that. If that's what she thinks of you, then this isn't the girl for you. Just tell her, no. You've got something going on later and wanted to see her, but your sorry that this didn't work out. Goodbye.
