it was changed in the 1950's to show that we were different than the "godless commies" in Russia.
I could care less how anyone wants to say it. The Right Wing Evangelicals will declare holy war if anyone tries to change it. They've deluded themselves to think the founding fathers wrote it....

I do not think Godcares if we add that or take it away. I do not know if there is a difference but if there is a blessing to have looks to me like now would be a good time to pursue one.
I went to school in 51. They were saying under god then I know cuz I asked my parent about that cuz in my house the word had not been spoken. Frankly I doubt that it was added and was probably there to begin with. I remember distinctly when there began to be rumblings about students being pushed to participate. It was about standing since there were plenty who never said anything but the times were pretty individualistic and many thought they were being forced to do something and where I was the practice stopped by 1960. no anthem no pledge there until at least 65. you should just ask the question and address it to oldtimers and not in the religious space cuz some here have their own agenda. Thats how to find out. that age group was taught what propaganda was and we all thought the pledge was propaganda. I'm still not sure that it is not.

Communism
The Cold war
The 50's Red Scare
We wanted to let the Commies know we were a country of God.
I believe in God and Jesus and I don't like God on our money and our pledge.
The U.S. gives God a bad name!
I don't think God would approve.
One is NOT supposed to use the Lord's name in Vain!
We need to stop giving God a bad rep and black eye. Let's either Straighten the country out or Get the referances to God out!
I don't want my God being dragged into the mud by U.S. policy!

It was changed in 1954 because of fear of communism. I very much would like it changed to the original form. I taught in the public schools for 12 years. I always left out "under God" when reciting the pledge. The kids never seemed to notice, but if asked I would have explained it to them.

Changed during the Eisenhower administration, in June, 1954.
Would like to see it go back to the way it was.
Supposed to be a "seperation of church and state"
In God We Trust on the money had to be added when we went off the gold backing up the money, its worthless paper now with no real meaning.

Because the USA was founded on principals from the Bible,
I absolutely do not want it changed, and neither does 86% of the people in this country.

McArthyism... during the 1950's. It was done in order to show their stance against Communism. During that time, if someone didn't feel their "neighbor" was patriotic enough, they were called a Communist. It was a strange paranoia that people had during that time.
It doesn't really matter as I don't say the Pledge anyway... I love my country, but my Gov't sucks. But, to see it as a secular thing would be better than all of these people who claim that supports that the "founding fathers" were Christian. Yes, they do say this. It's weird.

It was changed during the Eisenhower administration, on June 14, 1954, and was inserted to differentiate our nation against the godless, communist ones.
I prefer that it stays as it is today.

I know congress changed it not too long ago, within the last 5 decades.
Not sure why, but they should just take it out...

"Under God" was never added to the pledg of allegiance, it was always part of the pledge of allegiance.
