It is a contradiction to take a life in order to protect a life, but reality does not always break down so simply. I consider myself to be a nonviolent person, but I do anything possible to protect my children. I would also do nearly anything to protect you or your children if I made a judgement that the person threatening harm was "less worthy" of saving. Now, this may seem like a terrible thought, a mere mortal like myself sorting out 'good' and 'bad', but let's be realistic. If I see a madman threatening the lives of people I perceive to be 'innocent' and feel that the only way to stop him is to kill him, well I guess that is what I would do. That is a most serious life situation, but taken into the abstract, the idea of some 'leader' ordering a 'follower' to kill in the name of a country or a political system or for an economic goal is wrong.

ABSOLUTELY. I believe there are times that killing is completely justified and required. Look at most, not all but most, religions and you will find where killing is justified. War may be one of the most terrible things that man has ever thought up, but sometimes it is necessary. I personally would have no problem killing someone if it was in defense of myself, my family, or another innocent person.

I would give my life and take a life for my family and for you and all other americans. If it means killing some one or dying myself to protect your right to ask this question I would do it. My family, my country, my god, and my Corps, that is worth dying for and killing for.

I don't think that I'm mature enough to answer that question, but I do believe that there are things worth dying for.

Absolutely. Freedom, self-defense, and defense of a loved-one spring to mind. I'm sure I could list others.
Without the power to kill and defend ourselves, what incentive would people have to respect each other?

I am at a place in my life that I would have to say NO to this question. At one point I would have, if it had anything to do with my children.
