I'm looking into the ANG and want to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. Any info on when the soonest I could go to basic?

We have a base here in St. Joseph, MO... how likely is it that after basic, I can be stationed here. Is there a choice involved, or is it wherever they put you?

It's offered year round, but I would STRONGLY, STRONGLY recommend going any time BUT the summer. The heat is nothing, but the bullshit it what will kill you. During the summer you will have to deal with "split-op" people who are still in high school, but have chosen to split their training..go to basic, then go back to school, then leave for AIT after finishing high school. Trust me, you do NOT want to be in one of those cycles. Most recruiters will tell you this as well. Drill Sergeants are even more pissed off than usual because they have to deal with a lot who are not yet mature enough to handle discipline. You may freeze your *** off going in the fall or winter, but you'll be better off.

Basic training (it's only "boot camp" in the Marines) is offered year-round. It just depends on when you sign up and when your unit has on opening. Now, if you're a student, the unit can probably accomodate you and have you attend basic and tech school during summer months. But, again, training is a year round thing.

When you enlist with the National Guard as a reservist you start boot camp the minute you enlist and they assign a start date and location to where you're to report to for 12 weeks, but if you're looking to be actual enlisted then log on to www.GoArmy.com and look at enlisting in the actual military. You only serve two weekends a month and 2 weeks a year until you are called and because of the war that's going on they're not using enlisted personnel they're using reservists so chances likely you'll be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. As enlisted you can go to England and Germany or if you ask to stay in the US you can go to Hawaii, Florida, Texas, California, and Colorado. You will do your basic training in either at Ft Campbell, KY or Ft. Benning, GA. But if you're looking to go to the front lines join as a reservist, but if you want to stay out of war go as an enlisted personnel.

Go talk to a Recruiter tomorrow. You could be gone with in the week if you meet the age requirements.
