How do I remove a tick from my dogs cheek?

. Using a pair of pointed precision tweezers, grasp the tick by the head or mouth parts where it enters the skin. DO NOT grasp the tick by the body.

Etched or rasped fine-point tweezers may not be effective in removing deer ticks. Choose unrasped fine-point tweezers whose tips align tightly when pressed firmly together.

2. With a slow, smooth motion, pull firmly and steadily outward. DO NOT twist the tick. DO NOT apply petroleum jelly, a hot match, alcohol or any other irritant to the tick. This can cause the tick to burrow more deeply, and expel more bacteria into the blood.

3. Place the tick in a jar of alcohol to kill it.

4. Clean the wound with disinfectant. Monitor the bite for a rash for three to 30 days. Be alert for other symptoms of Lyme disease. If a rash or other early symptoms develop, see a vet immediately.

You can make one of those nifty tick removers like the vet has very easily. All you need is a plastic spoon ........

- cut the tip of the spoonspoon into a V shape
-make sure it is a sharp V with a perfect point (not rounded at all)
-press the spoon firmly under the butt of the tick
-try to work the head out and have the head get pinched in the point of the V
-slowly pull the tick out
-Put the tick in a container of alcohol to kill it or burn it- that works too (just flushing a tick down the toilet does not kill it)

This has worked for me many times with my dog and friends dogs.

You will get lots of answers for this, some good some not to good. When I was grooming dogs we would put a gob of vaseline on the tick. Eventually it smothers & releases it's mouthparts. Then we very gently got it right behind the neck & pulled it straight out. If you leave any of the head in, it will get infected. They do carry Lyme disease so it might be worth a trip to the vet or a groomer.

I think the easiest way to remove a tick is to cover the tick with Vaseline! They breath through their body once the head is in and they will back out. Grab with a tissue.

you have to make sure that if it's latched on, you pull the head out of the skin. use a hot match or hot tweezers to burn it first, so that it withdraws it's head from under the skin. then, wrap the tick in some toilet tissue, and flush it down the toilet. Make sure you keep the place where the tick was clean, and put your dog on some kind of anti tick medication.

PLace a credit card under the tick and flick it off. Then be sure to kill it so it does not latch on to anything else.

Then you should buy some tick shampoo to make sure that you kill any eggs that may have been laid.

Best of luck to you!
