Ari:

Foolish mistake #1. NEVER allow anyone else drive your car. YOU will be held financially responsible for any damage they do.

Foolish mistake #2. When you purchase an automobile ALWAYS immediately register it in your name. As far as the State of Nevada is concerned that car still legally belongs the the last registered owner. That is the person who will have to get it out of impound.

Foolish mistake #3. Since you don't have this automobile registered in your name that also means that you probably do not have insurance on the car either.

"I purchased a ninety seven Pontiac Sunfire from a certified trader. No curiosity, bought as is" ALL THE REST IS FLUFF. Legal rights? You have the correct to repair it, no longer repair it, promote it, maintain it, junk it, flip it right into a brand new artwork piece. "further expenditures that I will not need to pay for within the first situation" - good who will have to pay for them? You purchased the automobile AS IS. The trader has no duty to pay for something. Not even a mild bulb. Everything that's improper with the automobile both occurred (a) earlier than you purchased, and also you permitted the car with the ones flaws, or (b) on your ownership, wherein case you foot the invoice. In both case, nobody has any authorized duty to pay for the fix charges besides you. You DONT have any authorized grounds to get reimbursed for repairing YOUR automobile. Want a assurance that covers the whole lot? Buy new. There is a intent a fifteen yr historical automobile is so low-cost you already know.

You got zilched by your friend!! Lesson: never pay for a car without getting the license switched immediately. Your friend will have to pay his fine first, get it out of impound himself, then you will be able to get the tags switched to your name.
