Hmmm... you can maybe start a conversation with him and ask him for his IM yourself. Atleast that way he doesn't feel like you sort of intruded into his personal space. Then come up with something... Tell him you needed his help on HW or something. Just make up something. Then from there talk to him and stuff. Work your way in. Plus... you might not like the guy after you get to know him. So i would try not to tell him straight out that you like him yet until you're certian that you're really into him.
