What do you think is going through your dog's head when he or she is barking at something or someone?

My dachshund is definitely using some four letter words in her barks.

Sarah B, my little Heidi is a sweetheart at home, but seems to turn in Miss Hyde whenever we go out. I took her to Petsmart for the first time and we were asked to leave.

My dog seems to have three kinds of bark.
Angry, surprised and indignant. She throws her head like a little horse when she's scared.

She's a 3 year old dane called Holly. Tail like a steel cable.

Dachshunds are very loyal to their owners. Your dog was broadcasting to everyone "She's mine, stay away." I had a Dachshund named Sugar. She passed on in January of 2006 at 16 +. We adopted her when she was 5. She was a barker but the peacekeeper of our 12 dogs. She would stand between the 2 growling/barking dogs and bark. Whatever the argument, it immediately ceased. She barked when she was out of food and wanted to go outside. When we first adopted her, she barked all the time. She was attached to me from the very beginning so she barked when I left the house in the car and barked until I came back. It was so bad our children would tell me, "Mom, please don't stay gone too long because Sugar barks the whole time." She had anxiety and after about 6 months, the barking stopped. You will get to understand why your Dachshund barks also. I have never seen a Dachshund yet that is not a barker but they are so loving.

Until you've been cussed out by a German shepherd, you haven't lived. My first Shep used to doze at my feet while I did counted cross stitch. . .until one day when I was tired of the work. I let loose a "Pffff!" at it. (Think Bronx cheer.)

Poor Cody jumped up and gave his back end the most horrified look. "I let one. . .I must have. . .but I don't smell anything. Huh?"

Finally he gave a sort of doggie shrug and "Oh well, must've been dreaming" look. He curled up again, and I waited until he was almost asleep and did the same thing.

Same reaction. This went on for about ten minutes until I finally nudged him with my foot and said, "Cody -- PPPFFFTT!!"

Talk about canine cuss words! He was so mad that I'd tricked him, and he barked non-stop for about a minute, telling me exactly what he thought of me. Then he stalked off and wouldn't have anything to do with me for the rest of the day.

1) "Hey! I see you! Get out of my territory! Right now! Leave! This is my space! You stay out!"

2) "Let's play! I'm ready to play! Chase me! Play with me!"

3) "Go away, or I'll tear you up right now! Go ahead -- Make my day!"

4) "I'm so Happy to see you, I can barely control myself! Where have you been for so long?! Pet me! Pet me!"

5) "Hey everyone! There's a person in our neighborhood who doesn't belong here! Hey! Hey! Listen to me! I'm barking an alert! Danger! Danger! Be on alert!"
