The toxic dose of paracetamol is highly variable. In adults, single doses above 10 grams or 150 mg/kg have a reasonable likelihood of causing toxicity.[7] Toxicity can also occur when multiple smaller doses within 24 hours exceeds these levels, or even with chronic ingestion of doses as low as 4 g/day, and death with as little as 6 g/day.

In children acute doses above 200 mg/kg could potentially cause toxicity. This higher threshold is largely due to children having relatively larger kidneys and livers than adults and hence being more tolerant of paracetamol overdose than adults.[8] Acute paracetamol overdose in children rarely causes illness or death with chronic supratherapeutic doses being the major cause of toxicity in children.

Since paracetamol is often included in combination with other drugs, it is important to include all sources of paracetamol when checking a person's dose for toxicity. In addition to being sold by itself, paracetamol may be included in the formulations of various analgesics and cold/flu remedies as a way to increase the pain-relieving properties of the medication. To prevent overdoses, one should read medication labels carefully for the presence of paracetamol and check with a pharmacist before using over-the-counter medications.

Acetaminophen, good old Tylenol. And indeed it is deadly, especially when combined with alcohol. As to how many grams an individual needs to consume exactly depends on various factors such as height, age, health status, weight, osmosis, gender etc.

On average however, I've heard that a bottle will do the trick, unless prompt medical intervention is taken.

acetaminophen max dose is 4g. The damage to the liver is progressive. 1 tablet contains 500mg for adults' dosage form, means that max dose for a day is 8 tabs. Whether 4 g is deadly or not, it depends on your liver function and everyone has different degree of susceptibility. Anyway, the damage is irreversible and when liver cell die, various of detoxifying function, production of enzyme etc lost. The person will really suffer. If he/she has problem with liver, most probably jaundice will occur.

I agree with both "jayleites" and "Daniel E". Just wanted to add that the therapeutic dose is no more than 4g a day.
Also, I disagree with "privratnik." It IS possible to die from an aspirin overdose. Aspirin is also known as salicylic acid and an overdose causes a potentially fatal metabolic acidosis.

Just a note here in response to an answer you received- acetaminophen is NOT asprin. Acetominophen is what's in Tylenol.

It varies by weight/height. You need to follow the back of the bottle exactly. And be sure you check each time - if you are used to giving your baby a dropper of baby tylenol and then switch to jnior tylenol (which is stronger) - you need to adjust the dosage. Giving him/her the dropper of junior tylenol could kill hm/her

You won't kill yourself on asprin.

You'll ruin your stomach lining and wind up in the hospital with severe pain for a very long time (probably the rest of your life), but it won't kill you.
