I have put out a box with a towel in it for them. The mother is extremely skittish and skinny, definitely looks like a stray. I was surprised when she finally let me pet her. The kitten when I first saw it had the sleek fur and eyes closed, looked like a day, maybe 2 days old. I have no problem taking the mother to the vet, but at this time she won't let me pick her up, I can only pet her as long as I am sitting still. The kitten is now walking, or should I say stumbling LOL, and is furred out, cute little thing.

Pregnant or lactating cats need kitten food, so I would definately put kitten food out for her, as much as she will eat, along with plenty of water. Box and blanket, definately a good idea, so that the kitten does not wander around and get hurt. I would definately continue to gain moms trust so that you will be able to handle her at some point (just be very careful). I would try and contact a local rescue group, to see if you can find someone that is used to handling these kinds of cats on a regular basis and see if they would be willing to house mom and baby until baby can be weaned (they will be happy to know you can place kitten) and i am sure that they would be willing to try and place the mom if you were willing to incur the cost of spaying her. Good Luck you are doing a very kind thing.

You are a great person to pick up a stray like that . You sound like me I cant resist when I see a stray lol .

I would let the mother cat get use to you first it wont take much time as long as you give her lots of love and show her you wont hurt her. When she figures that out you will be able to put her in a cage. I would give her maybe 2 weeks and see how things go from there if its not working give her a couple more weeks if it still not working you might just have to have help in putting her in a cage .

Good Luck and you are such a nice person for doing something like this . Have fun with your new family

Mother Cats need lots of nutrition and water during this process. Sounds like the Mom maybe dehydrated. You will be able to tell by pulling up the skin just behind Her neck, very gently, if it goes back very slowly She is dehydrated. You can go to www.JustAnswers.com and set a fee to ask about anything, including cats. Like 3,5,8, or 10 dollars. Then You can talk to an expert. Also www.animalplanetchannel.com has lots of info and You can pay $10 to speak to a Vet.

May God Bless You All

I would try to gain her confidence just awhile longer.... I would go to the vet and maybe pick up some vitamines to give her since she is nursing.... Help her get healthy... And wait till the kitten is up and ready to go and take them both to the vet and get them checked on... She will allow you to pick her up directly.... Just continue to feed her well and show your loving nature to her... She knows where the food is coming from... But ou do not want to get tore up by a cat scratch and the vet too... she will come around.... Best Of Luck....

Momma cat has got it all figured out. Just feed them well and take them both to the vet to get fixed when the time is appropriate.

Your local humane shelter will provide a trap so you can get momma kitty to the vet without any harm.

my mom has sty cats all the time living on her back porch .........they never get used to most people and will run away. the kitten is probably more than two days old. When he gets his eyes open he will be 10 to 14 days old. You just need to take baby steps with the momma kitty she will become used to you later on it will just take time though
