ORIF of the Right Hip is a surgery where the physician will slice open your leg at the side, usually around the illiac crest (the bumpy thing on your hip) down toward your knee. He/She will then re-align the hip bone (called the femur) where it is broken. Then either plates, screwes, or both will be used to attach the two parts of the bone together, so that they can heal in proper alignment. You're going to be uncomfortable, and probably unable to walk on that leg for a little chunk of time . . . but with a competent surgeon -- all will be well.

It is a way to fix a broken hip by stabilizing it in the operating room using special orthopedic repair parts such as plates, screws or rods.
