Anxiety can not be CURED by medication but the symptoms of anxiety can be. Antianxiety medication will help take away the symptoms of anxiety but doesn't resolve the actual problem. So if you were to start taking them and take them for a while then you would become dependent on the medication. If you decided one day to quit taking them it would be hard because that feeling of anxiety would come back and you would want to keep taking the medicine. It's up to you, it helps but think about the long term effects! Maybe you can try dealing with the anxiety in a different way other than medication...i don't your problem so it's hard to say what....but good luck!

I believe it can be controlled by medication and therapy. Some people have to take anti-anxiety medication for a long time and some for a short time. Anxiety can be cured once you know the reason for your anxiety, but only through therapy.

Anxiety can be treated by medication. Curing it is another matter. If your anxiety is situational, resolution of the situation is the answer. If, on the other hand, you have an anxiety disorder then treating it, with medications such as Zanax (alprazolam) or other benzodiazepines or other medications can provide relief.
Talk therapy is also useful and can significantly increase the effectiveness of medications.

It can be TREATED with medication. But to actually CURE it you must identify and resolve the source of your anxiety. Drugs only treat the symptoms... not the cause.

Medication can help in many circumstances, but behavior/thought modification techniques are often just as beneficial as any drug, as well as being a critical component in truly 'curing' anxiety, rather than just masking the symptoms

Medication and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) are used co-jointly to manage anxiety. Medication can help to relieve the symptoms of anxiety, however to fully manage the condition rec-quires intensive work on your behalf (with a psychologist - trained in CBT) to help you identify your sources of anxiety, reality test them and introduce thought stopping behaviours when anxiety symptoms raise their ugly head.
In Australia (not sure about o/s) psychologists can not prescribe Medication, so you will need to make contact with your GP.

I don't really think so...just an opinion. I am on an anti-depressant which is generally prescribed for depression/anxiety and the other day, I had an interesting thought:
Couldn't you just take a really good yoga class when you are feeling anxious or down. Think about it, yoga is for the mind, body, and soul (okay, or spirit for those yuppies), right?
