No problem for a church to meet at the local cinema. Where else can you get the sound, stage, seating, etc., for a flat fee. The cinema isn't busy on Sunday morning, but they make money by renting out the place. And a church is able to bring people who might otherwise not want to go into a traditional church into the cinema for services. Sounds like a great idea to me. There are several in the area where I live and they are packed each Sunday morning.

It's usually an issue of not having a space to call their own. When the church that I attend was being built 40 years ago, the community met in an empty "space" at the local strip mall. They jokingly called it "St. Thriftys"
If you think about it, a cinema is an ideal space because it is oriented for people to all watch a single event.

There are many churches which start out, having to hold their services in public buildings, including movie theaters. Usually because they have not yet saved enough money to have their own public church buildings built. I have been to new churches which held services in such public buildings. And the building is not what really matters. For God is everywhere. And He promised us in his Holy Word that where 2 or 3 are gathered together in his (Jesus') name, that He would be with us. (Matt. 18:20) The important thing is that we gather together and worship God; not what building we gather in. Remember that a public church building, is only a building; regardless of how beautiful or how fancy it may be. It is the presence of God that really makes the difference.

Its cheaper than building a church and people may feel more comfortable going there. I'm sure its to preach the word of God and sing songs to the Lord.

A church I used to go to did this only because we didn't have a church to go to. The church was saving money to build a new one and it was cheaper to rent out space as we were saving money to build our First church.

I would guess that they rent the cinemas because of the number of people they can hold...not sure though.
