No, I don't think it strange at all. We are scared, if that wasn't so then murder would not be considered evil in all cultures throughout most of history.

Humans are not sacred, but they are a species of animal. Supposedly a higher form of animal due to its intelligent. But from what i have seen and studied of this species, I would say that it is going down hill at a rate far greater than expected. Any thing can be considered sacred, but the question should be, why consider a species that is bent on self destruction. With the lower forms of species, at least with them you know what to expect.

then u are not considered an atheist. u just dont go to mosques or churches or wherever.. that u are supposed to. if u believe that humans are sacred animals.. then u are not an atheist. humans are sacred animals of God. we are "animals" in the sense that we obey God and follow his orders.. like dogs follow our orders.. but we are not dogs because God gives us privelages and rights and a brain to think

Do atheists consider anything sacred? I really thought they didn't!

No, it wouldn't be wrong, at least not by Christian teachings.
We believe that Humans are made in God's image, remember? As part of our respect for God, we are to love and cherish each other, showing respect for the "image" of God inside each one of us. That may be something you understand as "sacredness".

Must be a lapsed atheist to think that. if you weren't then we would be just more clever animals than most.
To think of something as sacred would imply a belief in something other than nothing.
