I want to plan a special day with each of my kids more often. It's easy with my daughter, we get manicures, do lunch, you know, girl stuff. But I'm at such a loss for things my 11 year old son would like to do. I ask him for ideas, but he always says whatever I want to do. I don't want to do a movie, the point is for us to have time to talk and give him some one on one. Don't have much to spend either. He's a really good kid, helps out a lot at home. Can anyone help?

He's not really into much physical stuff. I wish he liked baseball 'cause there's a minor league park really close to us. Not too keen on bowling, either. We tried that last time. Hiking might work! What else have ya got?

Take him to museums. Find out what he really likes. It really won't matter to him what you do as long as you are together. I do the same with my kids and we have done everything from skating, bowling, any kind of activity like that to just riding around in the car and looking at what he wants to see. My son is now 14 and looks forward to our together time still. It is our special time to talk. He gets to ask me things he wouldn't ask in front of little sister and without a male role model and help with them, this works out great for us. Like I said, he just wants to spend time with you.

I think this is wonderful. Take him out for lunch, a video arcarde, just go for a ride in the car to no where, take a walk at the beach, or around the block, take him shopping, go out for ice cream, go fishing, fly a kite at the park, go sleigh riding (soon), go pumpkin picking, go to a haunted house.

My family did a lot with me too when I was a kid. I remember the times that we spent together a lot clearer than where we spent the time together. You are a great mom.

I have a 9 year old son and we either shoot some hoops, play catch and play video games. You can also go bike riding and/or go for nice long walks. A trip to the park is always fun, too. You can play frisbee or perhaps go on the swings together and just be silly.

Does he play video games? Take him to lunch and then hit a video arcade. Or hit the store for some of his favorite snack food and then play video games at home. Or sit down with a bowl of popcorn and play board games.

Throw the football, race each other, play in the park, draw, listen to him, ride a bike. Ask him what he would like to do. Cuddle.

Take him out for supper!
Go rollerblading together
Go outside and play catch

Those should give you lots of time to talk!
