Not sure about Rory Emerald...who ever that was...but lazarus was real person. He was the friend of Jesus and the brother of Mary and Martha. When Jesus arrived at the tomb, Lazarus was dead already 4 days.
The point was to prove that God was with HIM(that is was/IS God) and to show the power of God in his life.
As far as showing off.....anyone here able to raise the dead?
No one had raised the dead in Jesus day(during his lifetime or before).....no one that i can find in the Bible.....so this was truely a miracle of God. And because he IS God.....that is the point.
