It really doesn't matter. Just a get a dog of any gender. Any one you decide on will give you the same problems such as male dogs in the neighborhood checking out your female dog and vice verse. The females are usually for most breeds of dogs gentler than the males so it all depends on what kind of dog you want.

They both have their drawbacks, but a responsible owner will neuter their pet, so those drawbacks will be minimized.
A male dog will tend to be a bit more dominant, but also more territorial (the instinct needed for a good guard dog). A female will be gentler and easier to train, but will also be smaller and often less assertive. Neutering at an early age will prevent dominance issues in males, and will prevent females from going into heat.

There are a lot of great male dogs, but "I" personally prefere a female. Every female dog I've ever had in my life was easier to train, were more protective, ect. I'll put it this way. By the time my female Labrador was 4 months old, she was bringing me my "matching" shoes when she had to go outside to poop! Honest! But i guess it's a matter of preference. Good luck

Any gender is fine. Now most people don't care for dobermen's. I love them. Because they attack without warning to (some) of their owners.
But i was told once by a dog trainer to make sure i go for the female since i am one. And he also told me if a man is around the male dobermen can get jealous of me get aggressive with me. So i i'm looking for a female one. But what ever kind of dog you or some gets give it lots of love and you will get back in return.
Good luck with your new pet friend.

Female, if you don't want to deal with puppies or periods just get her fixed. I have owned two females. My husband has owned many male and female dogs growing up and he said females are a lot better.

Each sex has it's own unique applications, as with any pack animal. You want a more serious, watchful adult, I have found them to be males. Females strike me as more nurturing, and a little quicker to sound the alarm. To me both sexes are loyal and protective. Remember that rule of thumb, a female is smaller than a male. Females are not so driven to mark their territory like a male.

A male dog will be straight, because they are males and they are simple creatures. A good male dog will actually lay his life down for you if it comes to it, but a female won't.
Females are inherently sly, because they are the ones who are left to raise the kids. When you are biologically programmed to think of your pups before yourself, or your owner, then you are loyal first and foremost to your offspring and no-one else.
Therefore a male dog is likely to simpler and more loyal than a female dog, because biologically, no-one's life but his own depends upon him. Females are smarter, but they will look out for themselves before you - it's the way they are made.
By the way I am pro-dog and pro-female, this is just the way we are made.
