Start here!!
New York Dialect is the variety of the English language spoken by most European Americans in New York City and much of its metropolitan area including Westchester and Rockland counties, the western half of Long Island, and a few cities in northeastern New Jersey, . It is often considered to be one of the most recognizable accents within American English (Newman 2005). Besides the New York dialect, a number of independent dialects are spoken in the state of New Jersey.

i would suggest, as a nyer that you dont try. a fake accent is truely grating on the ears, and there are nuiances of speak that cant be listed. I cant, b/c its all i know.
I would suggest you be proud, try just speaking without an accent, if its possible, and wait for the diction coaches to help you past that.
FAKING ny, is really, most destestable and laughable to real nyers.
Theres a character on csi:ny, named with glasses. He trys WAY TO HARD and it irritates the hell out of me.
However, if you insist, hes a good person to listen to.
