If you are african american you can try using castro oil. Isoplus has one in a white jar with a light green top. Always (brand name) also has on in a tan jar with pink/light purple top. Indian hemp hair grease is good too. I switch between the two.
Castro Oil is also great to use if your hair is thin but you won't be able to keep a perm girl. Use the castro oil along with regular deep conditioning treatments, you can use Lekir cholestrol as the conditioner and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Also get your ends clipped regularly. Try not to hot curl too much, you can hot curl once a week and then pincurl your hair the rest of the time and tie it with a satan scarf. If you can't afford a hairdresser everyweek, try to go once a month. Prenatal vitamins does work as well and you can buy them in the walmart for $4.00 over the counter. These are some options. Be sure to drink lots of water too, it bring moisture and elasticity back in.
I have tried all of this and my hair has been growing so nicely. I get lots of comment on how healthy and thick my hair is.
Hope it works for you.

Natural homemade tips - hot oil massages on hair.
Hot oil massages: Warm 2 tsp. of olive oil and 2 tsp. coconut oil and gently massage every part of the scalp for 10-15 minutes. Rinse a towel in hot water, wipe and wind the hair around the head as it cools. Repeat 2 or 3 times to issue total saturation. After that, shampoo and rinse well. It is good for brittle dry hair.

U have to trim any split ends or dead ends off your hair. This is the start to getting your hair healthy. Then u get to a Beauty Supply Store to get shampoo/ conditioner to promote hair growth. U could also take pre-natal vitamins that u could purchase to any store like CVS, Wal-Greens or Wal-Mart. U may also want ot get a deep conditioner to do like 1-2x/week. Don't put too much heat on hair because if u are not taking care of it will start to break or have split ends.
