Wearing the full veil, or just the hijab is the choice of the one who has made this decision. Jack Straw's remarks are totally ridiculous and very insulting. I understand his point of view, however to many muslims religion comes first, and community relations afterwards. For Mr. Straw to say "I'll only help you if you take if off" is like me saying " I'll only talk to you if you take your shirt off". Its bizarre. Being a leading politician he should know better. You can totally tell facial expressions and you can determine body language to communicate well with many women. You dont neccessarily have to see everything to talk to someone.
The hijab/niqab is like us protecting our self respect, being forced to remove this piece of clothing is as if being molested and abused. I don't understand why this is such a big issue. Muslims are not all terrorists, you know.

Please be respectful with your comments, otherwise you will be reported. Thank you.

No one has been brainwashed. If following a religion and expressing your true self can be described as being brainwashed, then so be it.

And, no one if forcing any religion down anyone's throat. Freedom of religion...exactly my point. Freedom is a great thing, so set certain limitations for certain people. Why the hell would you care what religion I was, live and let live. Don't spark ridiculous comments like this. How do you know I dont already wear a hijab or the full veil. People like you spark comments without reasearching the facts, and there is a name for this IDIOT!

Muslims don't force others to wear to veil, we follow our rules ourselves and try our best to stay faithful to our religion and God.
So be what you want to be, and stop stereotyping!

You know we really dont care if you wear a huge cross, its your choice. And Muslim women aren't the ones making a big deal about this, its eveyone else who feels threatened by us wearing this piece of clothing. No one is forcing you to become a muslim, be what you want to be. Just repect other religions too and leave us alone. Women started wearing the veil after 9.11 because they felt threatened- they felt the religion was under threat because of the radical behavior of groups that claim to be muslims and go off committing sin after sin. I am not anti-christian or anything else. I support reasonable views on both sides of the issue. However I believe people shouldnt be asked to remove clothing that is full. yet we worry about folks in our society that go around naked or half naked and wear tiny pieces of clothing, but we also have views against full veiled women. Would people make up their minds!

It is others that make a radicule out of our religion. Whether it be the hijab or veil, or disturbing drawings of prophet Muhammad (pbuh). So if we wont feel threatened than what do you expect us to feel, reluctant?

I totally agree with you, and I guess that is what I have been trying to say all this time. That covering yourself up is being treated like its wrong, when its not. It today's society that is screwed up.

I am also a muslim sister I wear only hijab and as u can see in my pic, i am *NOT* a person who insist she will go to hell if she is seen without her hijab, as I am not a fanatic, or extremist. This guy "COFUCKEDUP" boy that name tells us all we need to know, and there is no point arguing with an idiot. My daddy went to combat 4TIMES, not a wimpy-*** 2 times, and I have the right that many more times than you deserve to have my freedom of speech. My father was a marine drill sargent, and when I converted to Islam over 20 years ago, it was WITH my parents blessing. I DO wear blue jeans, but not with whor-ish tank tops. I *STILL* dont understand why people will not think if your in public and you pull your down pants that others will look at you.... If we see women come in a room wearing super tight, small clothes showing half her body, yes, everyone looks at her. BUT, in a sexual way, not just looking and noticing hey, someone walked in the room. BUT, if a MUSLIM lady, covered even in a small hijab, wearing total american clothes walks in she is stared at. Modesty is treated as if we are walking around dressed like sluts... I swaer, I just dont get it...

Jack Straw's comments are ignorant and spitefull. Islamic Clothing is an order by Allah swt (God) to mankind. They are commanded to cover their adornments and guard chastity and protect their private parts. Basically muslims are required to adhere to certain guidelines when it comes to dress. Islamic Clothing should not bother anyone. It is a personal choice and as we claim to be demoractic and allow for freedom of religion and expression, we shuold stand by our values as western societies. There is a good site with some resources related to the bans that are going on in the west for Islamic clothing: http://abayas.net/Islamic-Resources-sp-204.html

I think the hijab is OK, but I can see his point about the full veil.
I would add that you wouldn't want to wear either if you weren't brainwashed. Thats not being disrespectful just telling you the facts.

I am guessing it is because it is different and an obvious outward sign of ones faith. Much like the scarf I wear.

Wear it then, lady. Good greif. Just don't force the stuff you beleive down my throat and expect me to comply. I feel molested and abused by Muslims attacking my country I went to combat to defend twice, and their opinions about women. Go figure.

You don't have to wear my jeans and tank tops, and I don't have to wear your hijab. Freedom is a beautiful thing.
