Well it is in the oven right now..
looks good so far.
I put it in a glass baking dish and set it in a cake pan filled with water.. It has set and its browning slightly. It has about 20 minutes to go. then into the broiler for browning.

You will need the restaurant quality mugs. They are a heavier pottery and should withstand the heat of the oven.

You might be able to use the coffee mug, but I'm more concerned with the actual cooking of your creme brulee. They'll probably take longer to cook because of the depth of a coffee mug. If you fill an entire mug full it'll take forever to cook and the middle still might not be done while the outter parts could be overdone. Unless you're only filling the mug a couple of inches, it'll be fine. The casserole dish idea above is a great idea!

I am almost certain that your everyday coffee mug would not be able to withstand the heat of the oven. If you don't have little ramekins, you can just use a larger casserole dish and make one big brulee'. It doesn't have the presentation of the ramekins, but the coffee mugs are liable to crack and you'll have a mess on your hands. I love creme brulee'. Be sure to bake it in a water bath, whatever dish you use.

Yeh it should be fine as long as they are not glass.
But in saying that you can put glass in the oven to sterilise so your coffee mugs will be fine.

Could you use a glass pie dish and reduce the cooking time? Then you could cut them into wedges. I don't really know for sure, bc I never made CB.
