I lived 12 years in the US not as an immigrant - I never asked for the green card although I was entitled to - and since 2001 I am happily back in my country. All North, Central and South American countries had and have their share of immigrants. That was how they were built. The real loosers in the process were the original owners of the land: the natives. There are differences in the interaction of the immigrants in the American countries. In Brazil, for instance, there has been a tendency since the beginning for interracial marriage. This has created a new "race" with lots of people having skin color going from black to white and a diverse pattern of facial and body features. In the US, the immigrants' groups kept to themselves and some of them - British, Irish, Scotish - have assumed that they are the "real" Americans. They all have forgotten their ancestors were immigrants. Where I lived, in Texas and California, would be hard to imagine life without the most recent immigrants - the Mexicans. It seems to me that a disarmament of spirit would be at order for a better future for the US, one where the race and origin of a person would not really matter but what she or he is worth for the community.

All of NJ is revitalizing. I just came from Trenton and know that is gentrifying. Phoenix and Houston have more than double their housing growth since the 1980s. I lived in both cities. The Bronx is definitely not in economic decline and I lived there also. It's impossible to get a reasonably priced apartment anywhere in NYC.

N.W.Arkansas was the fastest growing area and best economy in the US until we became the fastest growing Hispanic population. Now we are almost dead in the water. All these illegals have run out of work and turned to crime to support themselves. Why don't they move on to greener pastures? They wiped out most local construction labor only to trash out our area. Can someone tell them where there is work so they will get of their @$$'s and move on? Not to mention their baby boom at the cost of tax payers that are T-totally swamping our school system!

The cities with most illegals have declining economy because it is very hard to collect taxes on illegals being employed.\ and when conducting their own business.

What is used to measure this? Does this include things such as over-burdened schools, over-burdened medical services, and over-burdened social services of illegal immigrants? I can believe it!
