Are carrots good for dogs?

Question

our dog LOVES to eat carrots, we give him small bite-size pieces from time to time. I just wanted to double-check that they won't hurt him. thanks

Carrots are good for dogs but for some reason their bodies do not digest them. I would just shred the raw carrot and feed it to the dog that way. Here's a quick article that I found about dogs eatting carrots.
"When feeding carrots to a dog they will generally enjoy the flavor and will eat the whole carrot. Dogs do not have the greatest teeth for grinding down carbohydrates like carrots. They have a natural tendency to bite and chew a small amount then gulp. When feeding whole carrots you may notice when cleaning the yard, the dog will pass the undigested carrot through his system and the whole carrot you had given him is still intact. Although I feel raw is best for dogs, to get the full benefit of carrots they should be finely ground into a pulp state and slightly heated to facilitate the breaking down of the cell wall. Carrots are very tough and this processing will allow enzymes to completely break down the carrot cell thus releasing all the beneficial substances within. Whether you grind and heat fresh carrots or use a carrot product where the work has been eliminated for you, I believe you will find carrots a great addition to your canine friends diet."

My dogs lovelovelove carrots! I give them baby carrots, and honestly ... you'd think I was giving them steak! Veggies are great for dogs. Carrots, broccoli, green beans ... some fruits, too (apples!) I use carrots for treats, and both my dogs think they are the best thing ever! Your dog is, hopefully, eating a nutritious food, right? If so, the carrot should be just a treat ... so, no more often than you'd give any other treat. But a fresh vegetable is much more healthy than a commercial treat ... so, I don't think you need to worry too much about overdosing your dog on carrots!

Carrots are fine for your dog in moderation. I've also heard that allowing your dog to have a "full carrot" is actually good for the teeth as it helps clean the tartar away.

My Rotti gets a carrot or apple everyday they are better for him that dog treats and cheaper too. With him being an x-large guy 130lbs, with give him a whole carrot and the whole apple no need to cut them up for him he just chomps away.

My vet actually suggested carrots as a snack when I had to have my dog on a restricted diet and he couldn't have his beloved pig's ears. They did warn, though, that TOO many veggies could give him some gas or bowel problems, so I wouldn't go overboard unless you're prepared to face the consequence :)

I fed my Elkhound carrots (1 a day ) until he died at the ripe age of 14. I would say they will not hurt an animal, and should be good for them.

Carrots won't harm your dog. You can even freeze them to teething puppies as a special treat.

In addition to IAMS, my dogs get a mixture of rice, carrots, green beans with a touch of garlic, and cooked in beef or chicken broth. They take a multi-vitamin once a day. All are healthy and happy!
