Wicca... I don't know much about it. I'm not really sure if it's even a religion. I heard some people say that Wicca is a form of Satanism, and it involves killing and hurting, and other bad...things. Then again, I heard some people say that it is about purity and love and mushy things ^_^ So who's right? Can anyone clear things up for me, please? Thanks!

In the 19th century a romaticizing of things Pagan began. Godfrey Leland forged a spurious book called Aradia:Gospel of the Witches that implied that witches were pagans who worshipped Diana (and Lucifer). He plagarized materials from two previous books he wrote (Etruscan Remains and Gypsy Sorcery). Although the word Wicca isn't mentioned, it was the great-great daddy of the whole thing.
Later on quack anthropolgist Margret Murray hatched her own theory about the witches of the European witch trials actually being survivors of a Pagan cult in her books. These inspired Gardner to create his own witch cult witch he called "wica" (at first spelled in lower case and with only one "c"). Gardner insisted Witch meant "Wise one" claiming the word derives from the Old English word "wicce". "Wicce" actually means "to bend", and this is where the word "wicker" comes from. The word "wicked" also comes from "wicce" (as in a wicked person being "bent").
The word "witch" has a nefarious meaning in every language on earth, including English, but for some reason Wiccans still insist on calling themselves "Witches" (with a capital "W") and their religion "Witchcraft". They feel that the reason people are afraid of them is centuries of "xtian propaganda" meant to defame them. But even if they went to Vietnam ( a predominantly Buddhist country) and said they were a Phuy Tay (Vietnamese for witch), people would still be afraid of them. Of course, a tiny few Wiccans have stopped calling themselves witches, but most probably enjoy the shock value wether they admit it or not.

There were examples of witches who did evil deeds in history (such as the Weirs and LaViosin) but Wiccans don't equate themselves with such people since they were Devil worshippers.

According to Adian KIelly, Wicca was basically created by Gardner so he could be beaten by strong willed women. He was a sado-masochist and nudist.

In general, Wicca is an earth-based religion... meaning, Wiccans view all of creation as sacred and worthy of respect because of that... and because we are all linked with creation. It is not a form of Satanism and if people were really being killed and/or hurt, don't you think it would be all over the news? It is when any other group does those things. Some people do take it too far, as far as the mushy stuff is concerned. It is about purity... purity of thought and deed. But others will have you believe that it is "Everything is perfect and good and Nothing bad ever happens"... which we all know is not true of ANY religion. There are different traditions within Wicca that can range from the followers believing only in a Goddess... or a God... or both (God and Goddess), but most of them believe these are all images we use to show the "force/energy/etc" that creates. The images of the God and Goddess show balance in nature as well as guiding us to a balance within ourselves. Some would say it's only a philosophy and others will say it is all psychological (ranging from trance-like states to improve behavior down to those who would say the followers are simply insane).

I can't say any of the things you posted are right or wrong... with the exception that it is a form of Satanism. That is definitely wrong... it has to do more with ancient Pagan beliefs, than any Christian Deity of Evil. Just like I can't say that all Christians are cruel, though I know some are. I can't say they are all Good people, though some are... etc...

People who say Wicca is filled with evil are uneducated.

Wicca is a Neopagan religion and a religious movement found in many different countries. It was first publicised in 1954 by a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner[1] after the British Witchcraft Act was repealed. He claimed that the religion, of which he was an initiate, was a modern survival of an old witch cult, which had existed in secret for hundreds of years, originating in the pre-Christian Paganism of Europe. Wicca is thus sometimes referred to as the Old Religion. The veracity of Gardner's claims cannot be independently proven, and it is thought that Wiccan theology began to be compiled no earlier than the 1920s. Various related Wiccan traditions have since evolved, or been adapted from, the form established by Gardner, which came to be called Gardnerian Wicca. These other traditions of Wicca each have specific beliefs, rituals, and practices. Most traditions of Wicca remain secretive and require that members be initiated. There is also a movement of Eclectic or Solitary Wiccans who claim to belong to the religious movement, but do not believe any doctrine or traditional initiation is necessary in order to substantiate the claim.

Wicca is an earth, nature based religion, older than Christianity. It believes in the created energies of all things and that this energy can be manipulated to a specific person or situation by way of ritual. Wicca has a strict code of HARM TO NONE. They do not worship Satan, the devil, demons, do not do sacrifices and are not evil. There is nothing that is good or evil it is in how it is used that those qualities are produced.

Wicca's are witches. It depends on the person whether they are bad or good. Some wicca's use dark magic, others use magic for good or fun. Most worship idols though, whether they are satanic or not. Most I have met have been mean and my brother even had one group try to kill him. But that is not true of every wiccan group. Like I said it depends on the person. If I were you I would just search online. Be careful though, somethings you might not want to tap into. I hope this helps.

Wicca is a peaceful nature based religion. They do not believe in a satan figure, therefore they can not worship one. They do however believe in a duality of a Mother and Father God. However it is mostly a matriarchal religion. If you want more information, there are a number of books at your local bookstore or library that can answer many of your questions. Ravenwolf (I believe that's her last name) has many good ones.

It has NOTHING to do with worshiping the devil-christians made that up in order to defend themself and their actions with the witch hunt and burning at the stick. Basically its the belief in the Goddess-Mother Earth and worshiping the 4 basic elements of our world, earth, wind, fire & water. Its the taking only what you need and giving thanks to the Goddess for the gifts in your life.

Its a religion that was created in the 1950's. Its based on nature loving, and worshiping many gods. Supposedly you can cast spells to help people.

Seems like kinda a hippie-rebelious cult to me...and I have friends who are wiccans (and they're hippie and rebelious!)
