I'm English, wanted to point that out! And I speak very good English! But it depends what sort of English you want. Technically the Yanks speak the best English, much as it pains me to say it, because their simpleton usage of the language is the closest to what we used when we stopped speaking French all those centuries ago! They use basic English, before we developed it into the "proper" English we use now!

Hard question to answer, but if you've ever been on a fox-hunt then you will have met people who's accents make the Queen sound like a concrete-council-estate-charver!

Unfortunately the English. But keep in mind that for all the rest of us - Welsh, Irish, Scot - ENGLISH is a second language enforced upon our ancestors by the Evil Empire!! I think next you'd have the Canadians. The Americans are WAY down the totem pole.

All depends on where you look in history, The RP english is best in England itself. However, when english actually became a language itself ie moving away from celtic etc. The North of England Scotland and to some extent Ireland speak this orginally language chnage. However, language is a progression so better english isnt really applicible.

Well first off, you said other Brits as if the other countries were British. Actually Ireland had it's own distinct language (Gaelic) before it was nearly killed off by the occupying force that attempted to steal a country away from it's citizen's. That would be the Brits. So the Brits would speak better English, since the Irish would have preferred to have kept their own.

The purpose of a language is communication. We used to talk about 'Oxford English' or even 'the Queen's English'. I've been out of the UK for a long time, but I think there is a new definition 'received English'.
I well remember when my mother took a job as secretary to a Prison Governor. She also had to take dictation from the Principle Officer. The principle Officer was from Tyneside, and my mother came back in tears for almost three weeks, saying, 'I can't understand a word he's saying.'
If you can't communicate, it's probably better to keep your mouth shut.

Who are the 'other Brits'?...You mean the English don't you?

It's all a matter of opinion...being English you would expect me to say the English wouldn’t you?

It’s really an impossible question to answer - speech varies so much according to your location & background - who is to say which is the best?

PS ‘BBC English’ or ‘Received Pronunciation’ used to be thought of as the ‘correct’ pronunciation but this idea has faded away to a great extent - these days you are just as likely to hear a Geordie or Scottish accent on Radio or TV. To our modern ears the ‘BBC English’ of say the 1940’s now sound too stilted, elitist …& often comical!

As the language is English, the English should speak the Queen's English properly. However, some accents murder the language, such as the Geordies and having lived in' Newcassell', as they call it . I think that is the worst abuse of the language. The London area's accents vary, but at least one can understand what is being said.

Scots and Welsh ARE Brits as you call us! maximum people in Northern eire, who do no longer elect to be referred to as Irish, are Brits and consequently British electorate too. might want to imagine our inner preparations slightly too a lot for you to comprehend. Are you comparing us "welch", as you wrongly typed, to the English? elect to get your words authentic till now attempting to insult people.

I don't think there is an answer to this question. One of the reasons is that even our own (in many cases) fail to realise that british means welsh scottish English and Irish also such oft forgotten little bits like manx(isle of man). Its certainly not the queen the royal family is german in origin. Besides whats best about english is that it is a mixture(combination) of mainly french and anglo-saxon with tons of dialect words in particular originating from 2or3 gaelic languages, elements of Danish and Italian and imported words from just about every other language in existence. Who speaks it best perhaps the original 'brethons' the welsh.
