Please don't hurt them.
I have seven dogs, and my rule has always been once you see this being done, firmly scold the dog and put him out. And when he comes back ignore him,or her let him know you will not tolerate this behaviour.
I realize it isn't easy when you have more than one, as I said I have seven. When I don't know who was the culprit, I show them all, put their noes close by and say no no no Bad Dog. And use the word Pee Pee outside or Poo Poo outside, and send them all out.
The only time my guys do it now in the house is if they haven't been able to wake me up through the night, and then I find it at least at the door.
Another way, and this also works. Buy dog underpants, and when they have messed do the punishment of Bad Dog, and put them outside and when they come in put the under-ware on. Ask yourself how would you feel with your pants full and not be able to change them. Dogs learn fast, but it also takes a dedicated person to make sure the dog understands what he has done.
You can't just say bad dog bad dog and put him outside unless he knows why he is bad.
Good Luck
Ronnie

Yay training! You've pretty much got two options.
1) Go to the petstore and look up a "mark no more" product. Or try mixing water with vinegar and wiping or preferably spraying on the areas where they go to the bathroom. The idea is to remove the smell of the waste so the dogs don't associate it with they're outside bathroom.
2) Training. Go back to step one with house training. Get the puppy training pads from the petstore, or use newspaper for a cheeper alternative, and put where they've been going. Also put one by the door that they would go out to go to the bathroom outside, the door that leads to your backyard as an example. Praise them when they go on the pads. Treats, play time, a scratch behind the ears, do something they love! Make peeing or pooing on the mat seem like the most exciting thing in the world and they'll learn that's where they're supposed to go.
But that's not the final step. You still want them going outside to do their buisiness. When they're consisitantly going on the pads then slowly remove them one by one. Try for one a week. Still praise them when they go on the pads. You don't want them to regress back to using your carpet or bed as a toilet. ^^
Keep removing them until you've only got the one near the door where they're supposed to go outside. (Remember to continue to praise them when they do use the mat, and go happy nuts if they 'go' outside. ^^ but don't scare them. Just be really happy, all smiles and "good girl/boy") When they've got this mat mastered then start putting it out side for them. Have one in by the door and one outside on the grass.
This is the difficult stage. If you catch the pup going on the mat praise her. But start to ween off the praising in the house regarding "going" on the inside mat. Or at least make it a casual, "good dog" but no special treat. If they go outside and go pee/poo, go crazy happy nuts again ^^. The dog will learn that you're more happy about them going outside then them going inside. They'll learn they get speciall treats for going outside. Now once they're going outside consistantly, you don't need to keep dancing around the hat every time. Praise them calmly but still being happy. And don't forget the treats. They'll become your best friend. ^^
Sorry for the length. Hope that it helps, and good luck.

you can't stop this with this breed it's just what they do. they are one of the most stubborn breeds of dogs that I know of. I have one and she pees in the house all the time, if I don't crate her when I leave the house. She does it because I didn't take her with me.

If you haven't been able to stop your dogs bad habits by now, I don't see anything ever changing. You must like the smell.
