Yes. Chocolate is very toxic to dogs. The ingredient (theobromine) that is poisonous to them is not eliminated thru digestion. It can build up over time until it reaches fatal levels in the body. This is why you should never feed your dog chocolate.
ALSO avoid using Coco bark/mulch in your garden. This contains the same harmful substance as chocolate and it's very attractive and dangerous for dogs.

Yes, the caffeine is like poison to them. The reaction to eating chocolate varies, depending on how much chocolate was consumed, what kind of chocolate it was, and how big the dog is. Chocolate that's used for baking is more toxic than the chocolate in a hershey bar. Your best bet is to not give your dog any kind of chocolate and try to keep it out of its reach.

Tired of the dog and chocolate questions. If there is a question in your mind over what your dog should eat, then don't feed it to them, keep it away from them, don't allow the food to be in a place the dog can get to it.
For all the dog and chocolate questions, READ THIS: http://www.dogownersdigest.com/news/library/chocolate-dog-poisoning.shtml

Bakers chocolate, either in powder or (dark )candy form is toxic to dogs, as is any product containing it. The milk chocolate in most candy bars , at worst, will give your dog the 'runs' or make it throw up if it gets to much. Small dogs take smaller dose to affect them so extra care should be taken with them and chocolate sweets, I personally do not feed any type to my dogs , "better save than sorry".

Yes!!! I cared for a dog last week at work with chocolate toxicity. She has consumed several bars of baker's chocolate and began seizing and vomiting violently. And by the way, this was a 70lb lab...

You are not supposed to let dogs have chocolate due to the caffeine in the chocolate. Last year, one of my dogs (less that 1 year old) ate most of the Halloween candy, all of it chocolate (she especially liked the Reese cups!). She didn't even get sick. So I wouldn't advise giving your dog chocolate, but if the end up eating some, I don't think it will kill them although they may get sick.

yes, chocolate can be toxic to dogs and can kill them. Dogs shouldn't get people food at all. Anything could make them sick, and chocolate isn't the only food that will kill them.

dogs have their own specialised chocolates which contain none of the poisonous parts of human chocolates, so maybe if you want to give your dog chocolate, buy doggy chocolates!
